At the end of last summer we took the kids to Mersea Island for a fun day at the beach. While we were there we were lucky enough to review a beautiful beach hut on the Island, the Mersea May. We have never booked a beach hut for the day before, so I had no idea what to expect. But we were all super excited for our day at the beach.
The beach hut was located on the second row, so not directly on the beach. If you have small children, this is the best thing for you. The second row huts have a gated decking area which means you can lock the little ones in so they can’t run off. Honestly this was the best thing for us and my little running Bear cub.
Our first impressions of the Mersea May beach hut were so good. I was pleasantly surprised at how beautifully decorated and maintained it was. You could really see the owners paid a lot of attention to every detail and were proud of their beach hut.
Our day on Mersea Island was lovely. The weather was lush, the beach hut had everything we needed, and I mean everything. The only thing it doesn’t have is running water but they provide a large bottle you can fill up at the public tap.
There was a little sandy patch in front of the beach hut, which was perfect for Lamb and Bear to build sandcastles without going onto the main beach.
We decided to take a picnic with us, and were provided with plenty of kitchen items and cutlery etc, but there is a cafe very close by that sells fish and chips if you fancy a treat. Of course we walked up there to buy the kids an ice cream!
I can’t stress at how happy we were with our day at the Mersea May beach hut. It was incredibly clean and well equipped. We will certainly be visiting again.
Now, although the weather is pretty meh at the moment, that never stops us sticking our wellies on and heading out for the day. And where better to go during this half term than the beach?!
Hiring the Mersea May costs only £50 of the day for up to 8 people (including children). So if 2 families of 4 hire it out together then it’s £25 for a day out! Total bargain.
Even if you only hang out at the beach hut for a couple of hours, it’s still makes a fun day out. Take some playing cards and board games. Grab some fish and chips and enjoy the sea breeze!
