After the stress of my blog being transferred to a new host (and being unavailable for at least 36 hours) I decided to put down my laptop and take a breather from blogging over Easter. I’m not one to give myself a ‘break’ from blogging; I’m way too much of a perfectionist for this. If I’m not blogging at least every other day I tell myself I’m failing. This may sound a tad extreme, but it’s perfectly normal for me to be this way, I’m like it in all aspects of life. Impatiently passionate.
I absolutely love blogging. Not just writing posts, spreading my thoughts and feelings all over the page, or reviewing a product I’ve recently been sent, I also love the social side. Social media, linkys, commenting, emails. But last weekend I actually stayed away from posting on my social media pages, didn’t read or comment on any blogs and skipped some of my favourite linkys (I hate doing this!)
Normally this would not sit well with me. I hate missing out. The pressure I put on myself means I feel like I’m damaging my blog if I don’t link up or send out the odd tweet. But we all deserve a holiday, right?
I’m hugely unorganised, a bit messy and generally a spontaneous blogger. So taking a break wasn’t easy. I have a list of posts as long as my arm that need to be completed asap, however due to the host transfer and my blog being unavailable for a few days I grabbed the opportunity to take a break with both hands, and it’s done me wonders.
Easter was spent with lots of family, more than usual. My older brother and his partner came to stay with us which meant I got to spend some quality time with my beautiful niece Payton. What a lovely little lady she’s growing into! After attending my wedding as my flower girl she now calls me “my Princess Alex” (what does she want? 😉 )
I grew up in South Yorkshire and moved to Essex when I was 10. I’m now 28 and over the years half of my family have moved back ‘up north’. My mum and my older brother. My dad and my younger brother are still in Essex. It’s a shame the family has, well, been split in 2, but this Easter I had the opportunity to see them all, and it was wonderful.
That’s why it was important that I put down my MacBook, switched off my iPad and avoided social media. This Easter I had the opportunity to watch the Lamb with his 3 cousins, his 2 uncles and aunties, his ‘bambar’ and his ‘pop pop’. As well as his grandma, grandpop, auntie and his beautiful great nanny.
You won’t find me posting about Easter this year, it’s not something I celebrate much anyway. I have a few photos of the kids on their easter egg hunts which I might share, but other than that I think I’ll keep these memories to myself.
For once these memories were created with my eyes and not my iPhone.

Nothing wrong with a break every now and again. Especially from social media, which can be so addictive! Glad you had a great Easter xx Thanks for sharing #sundaystars
Something I definitely need to do more often. I came back with lots of post ideas! Great for bloggers block xx
Blogging breaks are so important. I find it refreshes my mind and I can actually focus on other things like reading and catching up on TV! #sundaystars
They really are, I can so so sucked into blogging that I miss out on the real world (when I say real world I mean Made in Chelsea! 😉 ) xx
totally agree everyone needs a break sometimes, especially from social media! I hope you had a lovely Easter and enjoyed your time as a family xx
It was lovely thanks hun, something I need to do more often! I’m hugely pro social media and kinda obsessed… so all the more reason to have a break sometimes! COuldn’t resist watching your youtube channel though! 😉 xx
Sometimes taking a break from things and coming back with a fresh head on is the best thing to do.
I’ve just started blogging and I’m continually on my laptop or phone trying to get things right!
I think my husband would love for me to take a break! X
I was the same at the start. To be honest, you kind of need to be on your laptop all the time in the beginning as it takes so long to build up a following. The best way to do it is to write a schedule. When you post, when you comment, when you have a break! Schedule is the key… if only I would listen to my own advice! 😉 xx
I’ve done the same this Easter, I think it was a good idea I have a lot more ideas since having a little time away x
Me too! I’ve got drafts coming out of my ears! 😉 xx
Everyone deserves a break now and then! 🙂
Hope you had a lovely Easter. ❤ xx
