I totally failed last month. I started writing Bears 7 month update, but just couldn’t finish it. So this update covers the last 2 months. Which is just crazy. A whole 2 months have past since I last updated you on my little cub.
Baby Bear was 8 months old yesterday and he’s growing up so fast!
FEEDING
Yep we’re still breastfeeding. Exclusively. Through the night. Zzzzzzz…..
He actually took 2oz of formula the other day, which is the most he has drunk from a bottle. It was all in one go too, rather than over the space of half an hour with him nibbling the teat. After 2oz he stopped drinking and pushed the bottle away. And if I tried to give him more he shook his head (something he has learned recently). I feel like 2 ounces filled him up and he didn’t need any more.
He hasn’t slept through the night yet and I’m still feeding 2-3 times a night.
I really do want him to take a bottle now. I’d love to be able to combi feed him for the next few months and eventually stop breastfeeding (which does break my heart).
SLEEPING
Sleeping is as bad as ever. I can’t believe he slept better at 3 months than he does at 8 months. The screaming every hour has improved and he now sleeps for around 3 hours in the evening before I need to feed him again.
A couple of weeks ago we said goodbye to the Snuzpod, which also broke my heart. He’s now sleeping in a travel cot (still in our room). I think moving him has helped him self settle. He has more room to wriggle around and get comfy. What’s funny is he’s gone back to sleeping on his front. He automatically rolls over when I put him in his cot.
Naps are still non existent. I’m currently training him to nap upstairs in his cot. It’s not going that well, but I’m trying to be at home for nap time to make sure he gets into a routine. He usually naps for 30 minutes, which doesn’t give me a lot of time to do anything. Today (after 2 failed attempts) I got him to nap for an hour. Which meant I ate my munch at a leisurely pace!
WEANING
Weaning seems to be going well. Baby led is still our focus. He shakes his head to a spoon a lot. He’s much happier picking up finger food and feeding himself. I do still offer him porridge and yoghurt, and very rarely I’ll offer a ouch if I want to fill him up.
He’s still not eating loads, but he’s happily trying new foods regularly. I’m confident he will be a good eater *crosses fingers*.
DEVELOPMENT
Well, where do I begin?! My little cub has been crawling since 5 months. He’s now ridiculously fast and we’ve had some serious close calls with cat food. He can pull himself up. Yep you hear sit right. He’s standing. And today I could see himself thinking about waking. Please don’t walk yet baby bear!!
Oh and did I mention he can climb up a step.
As I mentioned above he’s learned to shake his head. It’s actually really cute and only really does it when I try feeding him with a spoon. Or give him a bottle. Grrrr….
We’ve noticed him ‘waving’ which is something new. I definitely think it’s a form of waving anyway. I mean, he’s not moving his hand side to side, but he does lift his hand up to you and smiles.
His relationship with his brother is adorable. They make each other laugh so much. They’ve even started play fighting – wish me luck!
See you next month for his 9 month update! Eeek!
