Jam, then cream? Cream, then jam? How do you eat yours?
Me? I like cream first, then jam. No idea why, I just do. The local folks of Devon like theirs the same way.
The lovely lot at Parkdean have been talking about ‘staycations’ and why the residents of Devon and Cornwall are choosing to holiday in the UK over abroad. A recent survey by Parkdean Holidays found that 41% of Devon and Cornwall residents are choosing to holiday right on their doorstep!* They live in such beautiful areas, with amazing food and sights, there’s really no need for them to holiday elsewhere!
Devon holds a special place in my heart. Lambs first family holiday. You can read my post about packing for that holiday here. It really is stunning. It was my first time to that part of the country too and I would love to visit there more often, but the 6 hour drive puts me off. Having said that, we stopped at the most amazing farm called Puxton Park. What an amazing little find! It had everything for the perfect family day out. Soft play, park, sand pit, animals, cafe and more! If you’re ever in the area, or on your way to devon, google Puxton Park and make it your stop off point for lunch and a toilet break – although keep in mind you’ll be there for hours!
I didn’t actually eat afternoon tea while in Devon – don’t ask me why, it still baffles me now! However, thanks to Park Dean, this week I had the opportunity to eat and review a lovely hamper of Devon foods. Scones, jam, clotted cream, cider, biscuits, tea and fudge in a beautiful picnic hamper – it was like being back in Devon! The hamper was delicious. The Plymouth tea was really tasty and the fudge, well, the fudge was unbelievable. And now it’s all gone. And that makes me sad.
Since Lamb came along we have loved going on ‘staycations’. Mainly because it’s much easier to fill a car up and drive with a baby or toddler, than it is to pack a few things into a suitcase and jump on an aeroplane (although we have taken him on 2 holidays abroad when he was a little older and I wrote a list of things you need for the plane.)
We have a beautiful country and not enough of us take advantage of that. Ok, I know the weather isn’t always great, but that’s nothing a pair of wellies, hat and gloves can’t fix!
