I’ve been ‘working from home’ now for over 3 months and I still don’t have a space dedicated to working. We live in a fairly small house – 2 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, but also a cellar. I use the cellar to hold the stock for my clothing line and as a utility room. It could certainly be utilised a lot more though. Maybe a trip to ikea could turn it into an office space? Don’t worry, it’s not like a typical cellar. It’s been converted into a proper room with heating and good lighting. There’s also a little window down there for fresh air!
Alternatively I could create a space in our dining room. We already have a small desk in there for our iMac, but it’s squashed in a corner and I don’t like being so cramped. I much prefer snuggling on my sofa with my MacBook!
Having a small house doesn’t mean you can’t be organised and create new spaces. There is definitely potential for an office somewhere. We won’t be moving for at least 2 years (we are on low income while hubby is re-training) so I really need to get some inspiration and look at reorganising the house.
We recently turned the dining room into a playroom and down sized the dining room table. We rarely use it anyway! Now we have a place for all of Lambs toys and he can trash that room as much as wants, at the end of the day it’s all put back into the toy boxes and tidy again.
These small steps will really help keep our little house organised. Soon there will be another little human to find space for. One that will be crawling before I can blink an putting everything into his mouth. Maybe I should put my office space in the cellar. Gone are the days I can keep my printer on the floor in the living room!
What tips do you have for organising small spaces?
