Whether you’re moving to somewhere new or adding to your family meaning that your little ones will be required to share a room, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed at the prospect of creating a shared sibling room. Creating a room that’s a perfect fit for both children can be a struggle and can feel like a lot of pressure.
How do you perfectly balance each child’s needs and create a shared space that they’ll love? Can you ensure that both children have their own spaces within one shared space? How do you make your little ones feel as if their design tastes – if they have any – are being taken into account? There’s just so much to think about, however that doesn’t mean that you need to panic.
While there’s a lot for you to tackle when it comes to creating a shared sibling bedroom, including double the amount of necessities to fit in, there’s no need to feel daunted or overwhelmed by the task at hand. Yes, creating a shared bedroom for your little ones is a big task, but that doesn’t have to mean the job comes with stress. You can easily create a space that both children love and feel represents their personality and tastes, it’s just a case of getting creative, that’s all.
In need of a little design inspiration? Below are a few useful ideas to take note of and implement when it comes to creating the most amazing shared bedroom for your little ones!
Get the layout right
Getting the layout right of your little ones’ shared bedroom is so important. You need to ensure that within the shared space, each child has their own dedicated area – after all, everyone needs their own space, even small children. When it comes to making sure that each child feels like they have their own space within a shared room, the layout is key.
Consider creating individual zones within the room for each child – perhaps you could use one corner of the room for one child and one corner of the room for the other child’s zone. It can help to directly split the room down the middle, so each child knows which areas are theirs and which are their sibling’s. Just make sure to keep the design elements of each area consistent so that each area of the room works well with the rest of the space.
Remember, when it comes to the design and layout of the space, it pays to create a bedroom that will grow with your children.
Create a space that offers flexibility
When it comes to the design of your children’s bedroom, remember it’s not just a space to sleep, it should also offer a multifunctional space. Your children’s bedroom should be somewhere that they can play, read, and study, and have the room to do so. Think about how you can create multifunctional spaces within their shared bedroom, as well as creating areas where each child can play alone, should they want to.
Incorporating a play house or an indoor tent are both simple yet effective ways to create multifunctional play spaces for your children to enjoy. A ball pit is another option for giving your little ones more shared play spaces in their bedroom.
Add a little personality
Just because your children’s bedroom is shared, that doesn’t mean that the space should not reflect their own personal tastes and preferences, as well as their personalities. It’s important that a shared bedroom has a continuing theme that runs throughout the space to tie it all together. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t also incorporate you children’s different tastes and styles into the space.
You can use toys, pieces of art, photographs and accessories to reflect each child’s personality, likes and hobbies, while running a succinct theme throughout the room. You could also opt to incorporate wall stickers into the room to help with the theme – or to give each child their own area within the room by using a wall sticker that incorporates their name. There are plenty of designs to choose from on a wall stickers website, like Aspect Wall Art – so it’s worth taking the time to think about the type of stickers you would like to incorporate into the space. Another option, if you would prefer is to use stencils to personalise the space – you can order stencils online from a range of companies.
Make storage space a priority
If there’s one thing that you don’t want your children’s shared bedroom to be, it’s a mess and full of clutter. That’s why it’s so important that you ensure that storage space is a priority within the design of your little ones’ new bedroom. You will need to get creative when it comes to storage because you effectively have to double up on the amount of storage and cram it into just one room.
The good news is that there are lots of ideas online – sites like Pinterest are packed full of interesting storage ideas perfect for children’s bedrooms. Consider investing in beds with storage space, such as cabin beds, stacking crates or ceiling storage. Think about what would work best in the space and go from there. Would custom-made built-in wardrobes offer a solution to the need for storage? The great thing about custom-made built-in wardrobes is the fact that they can be designed to fit any space, meaning that you can utilise every inch of space that your children’s bedroom offers.
There you have it, a few useful ideas for how you can create a beautiful shared bedroom that your children – regardless of their ages – will love. It’s not always easy utilising a shared space, but with the right approach you can create a shared bedroom that makes each child feel special and gives them both their own space, as well as plenty of shared space to enjoy alongside their sibling.
If you need further ideas, take the time to browse online – there are plenty of cute, quirky concepts that you can utilise.

There comes a point in everyone’s
We’re living in pretty uncertain times where more and more of us are being asked to stay at home to slow the spread of a worldwide pandemic and protect our own health as well as others’ health. Now, this can be a pretty surreal and odd experience for many of us. Usually, we’re rushed off our feet. Trying to fit in breakfast, commuting, working, trying to keep up with social commitments, trying to keep up with family, trying to fit some sort of exercise regime into our daily routine… the to-do list goes on and on.
As my eldest son gets older (he’s 7 can you believe it?!) I’m always looking for toys and activities that makes him think a little more. We were sent these 3D effect jigsaw puzzles a few weeks ago (perfect little activity for the Easter Holidays!) and even I’ve enjoyed doing them with him!
The puzzles are available in 3 different designs, which you can buy as a set of 3 for a reduced price, or individually for £9.99 each.
The surface of the puzzles is a holographic plastic which gives the 3D effect to the image. This makes the pieces a little more difficult to put together, but nothing a couple of bangs won’t sort out!
If you fancy trying these for yourself I have a little discount to share with you. You can either click this link or use the code MNDD3DP at the checkout.
Everyone wants to improve their home – let’s be honest. Unless you built yours from the ground up, the chances are you haven’t found an absolutely 100% perfect home for your family. As times move on, your home may need freshening up here and there. Unfortunately, we don’t all have the luxury of being able to afford all the home improvements we want. So, we’ve got to get our savvy hats on to think of a solution.
