Can you believe BB is 1 month old already?! It’s crazy. (He’s actually 5 weeks tomorrow but I’m behind on posting this).
I’ve decided to do monthly updates from the start as I just don’t have the time (or energy) to do weekly ones.
So where shall I start?
Feeding
After 3 weeks of pain and suffering we finally established a good latch and have been successfully breastfeeding since birth. On average he feeds around every 3 hours, which I find very manageable. Lamb fed every 2 hours when he was born and that was just torture. Every 3 hours really makes the difference. I finds he’s hungrier in the morning from around 6am and in the evening from around 6pm. This is when he tends to cluster feed, so eating my breakfast and dinner has proven rather difficult. I have no intention of giving up breastfeeding and I’m thoroughly enjoying the time we have to cuddle and bond. From 6 weeks we will try him with a bottle of expressed breast milk to avoid him not taking one when I decide to wean him off the breast. He did have a bottle on day 2 because I was in so much pain, but due to our struggles with latching correctly we didn’t give him one again.
As you may have seen from my updates on social media, BB has gained a lot of weight in his first 4 weeks and is definitely thriving.
- Birth – 6lb 13oz
- 5 days – 7lb 1oz
- 10 days – 7lb 8oz
- 14 days – 7lb 14oz
- 4 weeks – 9lb 70z
As you can see from those numbers he’s grown amazingly (didn’t lose any weight) and I must be producing super milk! 😉 He will soon be out of his newborn clothes and in 0-3 months.
Sleeping
The first couple of weeks were a struggle. BB would only sleep on my chest (like pretty much every newborn in the world) but obviously this isn’t ideal. We were sent the Gro-Snug to review and this really helped me to get him to sleep in his SnuzPod. We eventually realised he is the happiest when sleeping on his front. I wonder if this was the case with Lamb too as he was always a struggle to get to sleep. We are now using the PurFlo Breathable Nest
and its amazing. BB goes down in it every night and after almost every feed (I usually let him cuddle me after his 4am feed). If you have a baby who likes sleeping on their side or front I highly recommend the breathable nest. It’s completely changed his sleep routine.
Development
We are very close to our first smiles. He’s not quite done it yet but we are getting half smiles or smirks. You can see he’s really thinking about it though! He’s very alert and awake a lot throughout the day. It wasn’t long before the non-stop sleeping ended and just wanted lots of cuddles, hence why my blog has been pretty quiet since he was born! I never have free hands! He doesn’t sleep as much as Lamb did when he was born. Of course I don’t mind this at all, I’m soaking up these newborn days.
He has a really strong head and can hold it for a lot longer than I thought he would at such a young age. We’ve had a few gurgles and coos every now and then which is super adorable. He is a mummy’s boy at the moment, but this is understandable due stop me breastfeeding. He doesn’t mind being help by anyone else but if he’s a little grizzly mummy can settle him the best.
Siblings
I can’t even begin to express how wonderful Lamb is towards his brother. Everyday he gives him kisses and cuddles and is always asking to hold him. He really loves “his baby” and I’m so proud of him for being so loving and careful with BB. They are really going to be the best of friends. BB is so alert when he hears Lambs voice. He definitely recognises his voice. I’m not surprised, he’s pretty loud!
Come back next month for his 2 month update 🙂

Hurrah for successful boob feeds! I think subsequent babies are quite good at fitting their feeding around their siblings, my younger two always fed so much more in the evenings as though they were taking full advantage of the peace!
Oh my gosh, where have the past 5 weeks gone?! BB is the cutest and it sounds like he is thriving. Well done mummy and her super milk. I am so pleased to hear that Lamb loves his baby brother so much. Introducing new siblings is such a worry and I know that it is something that I am anxious about. I can’t wait to see pictures of BB’s first smiles. Hugs Lucy xxxx
