If you haven’t heard of Wicked Uncle before, they are an online toy store with a focus on offering a gift service for all occasions. Buying for babies and children isn’t easy, especially for special occasions when you are competing with a dozen other family members at buying the best gift.
I was recently asked to review their service and buy something for Lamb. I love buying from new places, whether thats online or from in store, I just enjoy supporting new businesses and brands. One day I will be one of those businesses hoping you’ll all support me!
The overall design of the Wicked Uncle website is fun and fresh and you instantly see what they are about. You are given age categories to shop in for either boys or girls presents, which will instantly narrow down what sort of present you might want to buy. I think this is a really unique selling point for their site. You can obviously narrow down by age on other sites, however I’m not aware of other websites that give you that option initially.
For people who aren’t used to buying for children, maybe they don’t have children of their own, or their kids are all grown up so aren’t used to buying toys for the little ones, this service is really useful.
I began by choosing age 2 for boys toys and filtered through what they thought was suitable for that age. Personally I like to buy Lamb toys for age 3+ as he’s used to playing with his older cousins toys and get a bit bored of the younger stuff.
I often find on other sites, when I click on the age 1-2 years filter loads of ‘baby’ toys appear that are way too young for Lamb, and not all sites have age 2-3 years available as a filter. It’s sometimes, age 1-2 years and 3-4 years.
Wicked Uncle gives you the opportunity to really narrow down what you are looking to buy by a specific age. Once narrowed down by age you can then filter again by categories like ‘adventurer’, ‘snuggly’, and ‘creativity’.
There are so many things available on Wicked Uncle that it did take me a while to decide what to buy for Lamb. At that time he didn’t really need anything as he’d got lots of new toys for his birthday. I was really happy when I stumbled across the ‘cuddle roar’ towel from Cuddledry. I’ve always wanted to try a Cuddledry towel and as Lamb has a love of all things dinosaur I couldn’t resist ordering this!
If I was to give the Wicked Uncle site one criticism it would be that not everyone wants to buy gender gifts. There’s no option to choose unisex gifts, for example for a baby that hasn’t been born yet and the parents don’t know the sex. If they were to add this category then I think their target customer would increase.
A couple of useful services Wicked Uncle offer are gift wrapping and birthday reminders. I’m useless at remembering everyones birthday so I always put a reminder on my phone, but sometimes I miss it. To be able to have a reminder from someone else is a service I definitely would make use of.
Overall I was happy with the shopping experience with Wicked Uncle. They have a huge range of gifts available and shipping was really quick.
