A couple of months ago I was given the opportunity to review a pair of shoes from Brantano. As it was August I decided to grab myself some new summer sandals. I’ll be honest, I haven’t been in a Brantano for years (even though there is one local to me). I thought, now’s the time to see what they offer. After a bit of browsing I stumbled across these winners.
How gorgeous are these! I absolutely love the contrast between the faux zebra print, pony skin and patent baby blue.
Unfortunately, these were quite uncomfortable for me so I couldn’t wear them. Hence why you won’t see any photos of me reviewing them. This hasn’t put me off shopping in Brantano again, not everything fits everyone. In fact, it’s made me want to go in there more often to see what other fabulous shoes I can find.
One thing I didn’t realise about Brantano is how many brands they stock, including Clarks! How did I not know this?! Clarks shops are always so busy. We have one in our town centre, as well as one in our Local Sainsburys and they are both always full of people waiting. Now I know there’s one in my local Brantano I’ll be taking Lamb along to there for his next pair of shoes.
I’ve been browsing their site which is full of options for men, women and kids. It’s easy to navigate and has plenty of filters to narrow down what you are looking for.
I think as there is a store local to me, I’ll be more inclined to shop in store, rather than online, especially as the shoes sent for me to review were too uncomfortable to wear. I blame my fat ankles!
So if you’re looking for shoes for the whole family, why not take a look in your local Brantano, or on their website, I certainly will be.

Ahead of the clocks going back and with Halloween and Bonfire Night fast approaching, household favourite Fireman Sam is launching a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of fire safety amongst children.
Last year we stumbled across a mini film about firework safety with Fireman Sam and downloaded it to our iPad. Although Lamb had no idea what he was watching (he thought it was a normal episode of Fireman Sam), he was hooked from the word go. Sometimes it’s difficult to teach the little ones about safety, they just lose their concentration, so if Fireman Sam can do a better job I’m all for it!
This month, as it’s Fireman Sam Safety Month, we’ve been asked to share a video on the blog and raise awareness about fire safety, which I’m more than happy to do! As a thank you we’ve been sent a fab Fireman Sam umbrella for Lamb, which will come in handy if it rains on bonfire night!
Take a look at one of the safety videos below. There’s plenty more available on YouTube.
Fireman Sam’s Top Tips
Bonfire Do’s and Don’ts
Firework Dos and Don’ts
Real-life fireman for East Sussex Fire & Rescue and advisor to the children’s TV show Paul McIvenny comments, ‘My advice to parents would be to be extra vigilant while trick or treating at Halloween this year particularly with naked or open flames, opt to attend a well-organised fireworks display, or if you hold your own event ensure all your family and friends follows Sam’s Safety Tips”.
Paul, who attends many accidents at this time of year, adds ‘I’ve seen severe burns as a result of handling fireworks incorrectly and also a lot of small accidents where children are lucky to have escaped with minor burns which could have been avoided, so I would strongly suggest parents take extra care as well as making their children aware of the potential dangers too”.
After hearing about Claudia Winkleman’s daughter Matilda being set on fire last year because of a highly flammable, cheap costume from the supermarket, I want you all to think twice about what you dress your little ones in. These costumes should not be available to buy if they are so dangerous. Children’s clothing should be not so highly flammable. What happened to Matilda was horrific, and a tragic accident, but it can be avoided with extra care (I’m not implying Claudia wasn’t taking care of Matilda, but her story can hopefully teach us all a little something about fire safety).
Don’t put naked flames in your garden for decoration if you know there will be trick or treaters, use LED tea lights instead! If you are using flames, make sure they are in a safe place where children can’t reach them.
I’ve never been into Halloween and trick or treating, maybe because I wasn’t so successful as a child! But if Lamb wants to celebrate Halloween I’m happy to take part. I just won’t be buying a crappy, cheap costume from the supermarket. He will be in 100% cotton t-shirts with a skeleton on the front!
Remember to show your little ones the Fireman Sam safety videos, they are never too young to learn.

Ever since Lamb was born the one brand we have continuously used is Tommee Tippee. From their Essentials First Cup that cost me 99p in Aldi, to their Closer to Nature Essentials Starter Kit (which includes their electric steriliser and electric bottle warmer). Tommee Tippee remains a brand well used in our house.
For that reason I’ve decided to share with you my top 5 products from Tommee Tippee that we have used with Lamb. I’m also going to throw one in there that we didn’t use, but had it have been available when Lamb was a baby I would have jumped at the chance of using one.
1. The Tommee Tippee Essentials
products are fab. You can get these in most supermarkets or drug stores, or even amazon. Personally I bought all of mine in Aldi while they were having a baby event and paid a lot less than the normal RRP. In this range you can buy the first cup, plates, bowls and spoons, in either orange, blue or pink. We are still using all of these products and Lamb is 2 1/2!
2. Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Healthcare Kit
. I’ll be honest, I haven’t used everything in this kit. For example the nasal aspirator and the toothbrush (we bought a separate one and just never used this one). However having the kit in the cupboard has been really useful. I regularly use the nail clippers and scissors, and with the rate Lamb’s hair grows, he often needs a good brush through! The kit also comes with a thermometer which is obviously an essential for a child. I’m well known for losing things. The kit zips up and stays in our medicine cupboard and so far I’ve only had to replace the nail scissors! 😉
3. When I was pregnant with Lamb I knew I wanted to do everything I could be make my life a little easier once he arrived. That meant an electric steriliser and bottle warmer. The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Essentials Starter Kit
was exactly what we needed. We used absolutely everything n the kit, and are still using the larger bottles now! Ok, I know, Lamb shouldn’t be using bottles and I’m working on that.
4. When I was pregnant with Lamb my plan was to breastfeed, as well as express and freeze my milk to build up a supply and to allow Daddy to feed him too. Unfortunately Lamb couldn’t latch, as much as I tried he just couldn’t do it, and he was a hungry baby feeding every 2 hours, so it was getting rather tiring. I used nipple shields for a couple of weeks, then decided to exclusively express and feed him with a bottle. I first began with the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Electric Breast Pump
but it broke a couple of times so instead of spending more money I borrowed their manual pump from my sister-in-law. It was amazing! I was so lucky and had a huge milk supply, so I found the manual pump just as good, if not better than the electric pump. If you’re thinking of using a breast pump, my advice would be to wait until you’ve given birth and see how you get on with breastfeeding first. You might not even need a breast pump!
5. Finally we have the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Perfect Prep
machine. I haven’t actually used this, so this isn’y a review. I have, however read many a positive review, watched demonstations and generally love the product from what I’ve seen. This is a product I wish I had for Lamb once we had moved over to formula and I will definitely be getting ne if we have another baby! After my experience with breastfeeding Lmab, I am going to obviously try with my second, however will be combination feeding as I find that the best way for our family.
Tommee Tippee’s latest campaign #ParentOn is all about trusting your instincts. You’d be surprised how much you know as a mum, whether it’s your first time or tenth time! Remember the older generation in our family didn’t have google to turn to for help and advice. Yes, we are lucky to have access to 24 hour help, but don’t be sucked into the depths of the internet. Trust your instincts.

As part of the Parragon Book Buddies group this month I was sent a well suited book called ‘Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere’.
This is the first year Lamb understands about Halloween and has been loving watching Halloween movies like Hotel Transylvania. We even took him to the cinema to see Hotel Transylvania 2 at the weekend.
The first time we read this he was hooked straight away. In fact he kept making me go back a page to look at the pictures again!
I’ll be honest, the lack of words was quite annoying for me, some pages only had 2! However this is perfect for little ones who are learning to read. The words are repetitive, bright and bold and will stand out to them as they read through the book.
With that said, I’ve grown to love the lack of words. This gives me the opportunity to create my own story with Lamb. Together we point out things on the page, talk about what the characters are wearing or doing, what scary monsters you can see. The pictures are so inviting and every page is full of detail.
Parragon books are beautiful. They are high quality and the range available is vast. I’m loving being a Book Buddy and look forward to sharing some more amazing reads with you each month.
Happy Halloween!
