Growing up we always had pets. My very first pet as a child was a black cat called Toby. Then we had Chloe, and then Cooper. Cooper was my best friend. She was in my life for nearly 20 years (she had a good innings didn’t she!) and I adored her. We had an amazing bond and she showed me how special it is for children to grow up with pets.
Lamb has been been going to the zoo regularly since he was a newborn so has grown to love all animals, big and small. His first pet was a black cat called Mowgli. We lost Mowgli when Lamb was about 6 months old and it broke my heart (Lambs first word other than dada and mama was cat).
When Lamb was a little older he started talking about having a cat at home (he loves the cats at Grandmas house) and we felt that it was time to let him have another pet. We found a gorgeous kitten local to us and picked him up a few weeks later. Lamb called him Gruffalo and fell in love. We also adopted our current pet Luna, a fluffy white Ragdoll cat, who loves cuddles with Lamb.
More recently Lamb has been asking for a pet dog. Both my husband and I like dogs, but we have decided to wait until the boys are older before we consider a family dog. Luna is enough for now!
Imagine what our homes would be like if we let our kids have their dream pet?!
With that in mind Petplan pet insurance contacted us and asked Lamb to draw his dream pet so they could transform it into his very own cuddly toy! He was so excited to get involved, and with a couple of hints and ideas from mummy this is what he came up with…

Introducing Melon!
I just asked Lamb what he has called his dream pet and he relied “Melon”. I asked why and he said “because I just saw a picture of a melon.” Fair enough.
As you can see Lamb has created his dream pet with body parts of some of his favourite animals. There’s a giraffe head & neck with an elephants trunk. A zebra body with dragon wings. Tiger feet and a piggy tail!
And here is Melon in the flesh! As you can see the elephant trunk has been translated into long hair (which Lamb noticed and was a little sad about, but he can’t complain, it’s one of a kind!)
Thank you Petplan for turning Lambs masterpiece into his new favourite cuddly toy.
