According to my mum I learned to read at quite a young age. Around three ish I think. As children, my brothers and I loved books and my mum would always encourage us to read. We had so many books between us and would always read a bedtime story snuggled in my mums bed before bedtime.
My mum is very creative, and would always come up with fun things to do with us. Baking, painting, arts & crafts. One of her best ideas was to turn our bookshelf into a library. She spent hours colouring in little pieces of paper and sellotaping them onto the books to create our very own library books! Each colour represented a different genre, and we would take it in turns to borrow a book from ‘the library’. I absolutely loved these fun things my mum would do with us, and as a creative person myself, I want to make sure I am very hands on and inventive with Jaxson.
Here are my favorite children’s books from when I was little. I’m sure there’s plenty more, but this is what comes to mind.
Jaxson is now 19 months old and loves reading. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t read together. When I say read, I mean he looks at the pictures and gets bored and picks up another book! The only book I’ve manged to fully read with him so far is The Gruffalo (which is one of his faves at the mo).
What books do your little ones like to read?

I love the library idea! What a great mum you have 😀
For years my older children’s favourite book was the Welsh translation of Kiss Goodnight Sam (Sws nos da Sam) my youngest, who is 18 months adores a little board book called ‘Hoff Le Sali Mali’ (Sali Mali’s favourite place) I swear I have read that book a million times a day for a month lol

She is a fab mum 🙂 Always so creative with us and coming up with great activities. I hope I can be just as creative with Lamb! xx
What a great list of books. I remember Meg and Mog and Funnybones when I was little.
M loves all of Julia Donaldson’s books.
A lot of people mention Each Peach Pear Plum but I have not read that yet. Keep meaning to buy it.
You should definitely take a look at Each Peach Pear Plum, such a classic. Julia Donaldson books are lovely aren’t they xx
I had forgotten about Meg and Mog! Nostalgia.
We love all Julia Donaldson, the pictures in the Bob the moon man, and I like hugless Douglas!!
I loved “Can’t you Sleep Little Bear?” when I was young. It hasn’t made it into my children’s collection yet, I will need to put it on the Christmas list 🙂
I’m hoping to buy Lamb all of these books for christmas. I still have a few copies from when I was little but will be nice to have some new ones x

Isn’t there something magical about reading your childhood favourite books to your own children? I just love it. I’d completely forgotten about Cops and Robbers – that was one of my favourites as a kid too! Thank you for reminding me! Lovely post 🙂
Ahhh what a lovely comment- thank you! My mum was very into reading with us, so all of our old books feel very sentimental and I want to share the same ones with Lamb. I’ll have to ask her what others we read as kids and write another post! X
We love reading here too. Z has a massive collection now and we love all the julia donaldson books, we have the mr men books, peppa pig books (that i really need to steal to give to his baby sister!) and Thomas books but you cant beat favs like Each peach pear plum 🙂 #toddlerapprovedtuesday
