Working from home means we don’t have to panic about childcare. Life can go on as normal without my other half worrying about taking time off to help with the kids. I don’t need child minders or a holiday camp, right?
Well, so we thought, but boy is it difficult to work from home during the summer holidays!
This is our first summer holiday now Lamb has finished reception, and although I’m lucky to be able to work evenings, weekends, early hours, during long car journeys. Wherever I can grab a few minutes. In all honesty I’m struggling more than I thought I would.
At the moment Bear’s routine stays the same. He’s in nursery 2 days a week and with his grandma one day a week. Lamb is at home with me, unless he goes to grandmas too. So I’m only really getting one day a week childfree, which is causing a back log of work.
Last month the team at Gymfinity Kids got in touch and asked if I’d like to review their holiday camp. I took a look at their website and knew Lamb would love the setting. It’s not your typical camp, it’s at a gymnastics studio! So straight away I knew Lamb would be in his element there. Or at least I hoped.
I signed him up for a few sessions and I stayed for a couple so I could see what they got up to and how he felt there.
The sessions begin at 8:30 and you collect between 3:30-3:45, so for me that’s slightly longer than school hours which is great.
You can book full days, or there is the option for morning or afternoon sessions for 4-5 year olds.

At drop off the children go up to the activity room until 9am. They then have a 1 hour session in the gym area. Here they will do anything from some fun gym games, to free play. So lots of energy burning!
After the floor session they go back upstairs to take part in an activity or arts & crafts. The first week Lamb attended was science week so the children got to enjoy some fun science experiments.
The day Lamb was there they mixed yeast and water into a bottle, covered with a balloon and watched the balloon fill up! It was a really fun thing to do and something I can do again at home!

As well as activities, the room is equipped with a variety of kids movies on a large screen TV. The team allowed the children to choose a movie to watching while they ate lunch and during their cool down period. They needed time for their lunch to settle before heading down to to the gym floor again for more play time.
From what I saw when I watched over the group, there was a great balance between education, fun, energy burning and quiet time. At no point did I feel the children were bored or unhappy in the setting.
In fact, my shy, clingy little Lamb has asked me multiple times if he can go back to summer camp! Something I absolutely never expected to hear!

Each week has a different theme. As I mentioned the first week Lamb was there it was Science Week, the second week was Jungle Week. Here you can see the children have made colourful hands into parrots. Lamb also came home with a rain cloud made from coloured paper and string.
The ladies looking after the children were absolutely lovely. They were really accommodating with me while I was reviewing, and also very comfortable with allowing Lamb to take his time to talk to them on his first day. they were polite, friendly and full of smiles. And I felt very comfortable leaving my son with them.
If you’re local to one of the Gymfinity Kids locations (listed below) I highly recommend them if you need a holiday camp for the rest of the summer. I will certainly be considering sending Lamb back for a day or two next summer.

Thank you Gymfinity for asking us to come and review your holiday camp. Lamb genuinely had an amazing time. As a mum of a shy child, knowing I have somewhere I can send him where he feels comfortable and happy is such a relief!

Oh my goodness this looks truly incredible. I bet he had such an amazing time, I love the fact there is literally something for everyone whether its crafting, physical or just relaxing. Noah would adore this.
I like the combination of active play with downtime watching a movie. Looks like a great kids’ club!
