Next up in our Toy review series is the Hatchimals Colleggtibles Secret Surprise. The boys have been lucky to be sent a variety of Hatchimals toys to review in the past, and they were super happy to be reviewing some again!
The boys were sent the smaller Secret Surprise egg which consists of 3 Hatchimal characters. (There’s a larger ‘Crown Jewels Secret Surprise‘ too). There are 2 layers to the egg. The top ;ayer is where you find the 3 Hatchimals, and the bottom layer is where you find accessories to play with.
But, to access these 2 layers, you of course need to hatch the egg.
Like with all the Hatchimal eggs to help them ‘hatch’ you ruin your thumbs over the heart and as the shell warms up it begins to soften and crumble. This is the favourite part for the boys. It really has a magical element to the reveal process.
Once the large egg has been hatched and you’ve removed the shell, you reveal your 3 new Hatchimal characters. Exciting!
Next twist the top section of the egg to lift and remove, revealing 3 compartments covered with a plastic seal. Under the seal you’ll find accessories for the Hatchimals in the form of fruity hats! And when I say fruity, I meal it – they smell of fruits!
Finally in the lowest part of the egg there is a little ‘scene’ for you to sit your characters on and keep nicely in the display part of the e.g, as well as a small sheet of stickers. These were quite fiddly, so you’ll probably need to help put it together (and even then you’ll probably find they don’t stay in place).
But even still, it’s a nice added feature to the Secret Surprise Egg.
The Secret Surprise Playset retails at £12.99, and as mentioned you get 3 Hatchimal characters inside. In all honesty, this isn’t my favourite Hatchimal product the boys have reviewed. I think for the price I’d east more characters in the set. I think I;d rather spend more on one of the egg box sets and let them go mad on hatching lots of individual eggs, or a little less on a 4 pack.
They love rubbing the egg and making it hatch, so to only do this once with the Secret Surprise was a teeny tiny bit disappointing.
Having said that, they still enjoyed finding all the compartments that you wouldn’t normally get with a standard Hatchimal product.
