You were once oh so young and free, and then you had children. Now, you know that you love them and wouldn’t change your circumstances for the world, but still, it can sometimes be a little frustrating that your whole life now revolves around the kids. But who says it has to be like that all the time? It doesn’t! While you can’t go off gallivanting with your other half every weekend, there’s no reason why you can’t have the occasional date night. We take a look at how to have one below.
Take Care of the Kids
You’re trying to have a romantic night with your partner… but you can’t forget about those lovable kids of yours. You need to ensure that they’re well taken care of before you make too many plans. If your parents live nearby, then this is the perfect opportunity for some grandparents/grandchildren bonding time (or at least that’s how you’ll sell it). If your children are a little older, then a reliable babysitter will fill the role. Make sure they’re well-fed, well looked after, and that they know you’re not leaving them forever (my children struggle with this!)
Look and Feel The Part
You’re used to throwing on any old jeans and sweatshirt combination when you’re on mum duty, but you’re not on mum duty tonight! Rekindle your sexy and fashionable side by getting dressed up. Get out your favourite little black dress, make the most of the lingerie sale at Lingerie Outlet, and get your hair and makeup just right. You won’t just look awesome; you’ll feel awesome too! This is one of the rare moments when you get to strut your stuff in the wider world. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by!
Where To go?
You’re not limited to places that have good baby changing facilities anymore. The world is your oyster. So the question is, where are you going to go? You can keep things nice and civil at an intimate local restaurant, or you can go all trendy by checking out the best new restaurants in your nearest city. If your parents don’t mind looking after the kids for the whole night, then you could even take a road trip to stay in a cute B&B. But don’t let us put too many ideas in your head… it’s your night. Go with what feels right.
Forget the Children
In their courting days, parents would talk about anything and everything. But then settled life arrived, and now most conversations concern the children or work. But not tonight! Leave the everyday topics for when you return, and talk about other things. Plans for the future, places you want to visit, your favourite memories from the old days will all make the evening a romantic one.
Not Too Late
You’ll be having a good time…but you’ll eventually want to get back to the kids, so don’t stay out too late! In any case, it’s more difficult to be on parent duties when you have a hangover…
