A couple of months ago I was sent a lovely new hybrid baby carrier from Izmi. The carrier has been designed to offer parents the closeness and comfort of a fabric wrap, but with the strength and structure of a buckle carrier – which is personally my ideal carrier.
The unique straps spread to fit snugly across shoulders. The head support provides vital support for newborns, and the adjustable seat, ensures the comfort and intimacy lasts as the baby grows, from birth to walking at approximately 18 months.
Simon Russell, Managing Director at Cheeky Rascals said, “We’re really excited to launch this new hybrid baby carrier. Parents have been telling us for ages that they love the soft intimacy of the sling but still want the structure of a buckled carrier. Now they can have both, with Izmi. It is a truly unique product that babies and parents will love.”
I’ve been trying this out for a few weeks now and although it took me a while to get used to I have grown to like it. At first I struggled with getting Bear into the sling as he’s just too wriggly. With a more traditional buckle carrier, the fabric is structured and holds them in place better, meaning I can fasten my wriggly boy in easier.
The Izmi carrier is so soft I had to really hold on to Bear while I fastened him in. I had no support from the carrier until he was fully strapped in. However, once I had got him securely fastened the carrier felt extremely comfortable and supportive, and he actually fell asleep really quickly.
One of my favourite features of this sling is being able to adjust the support under the legs. The fabric rolls out as the baby grows, ensuring they are supported well at the knee.

Another great feature to this sling is the multiple carrying positions. Baby can be parent or world facing. On your front, back or side. So depending on their age (and mood) you can choose a way to carry them that will keep them happy.
The overall design of this sling is really lovely. The fabric is soft and breathable and washes well. It’s easy to fasten in place and adjust (once you’ve got the wriggly baby in the right place!)
If you’re looking for a fabric wrap, but with the convenience of a buckle fastening, I definitely recommend the Izmi carrier. I wish I had got one when Bear was a newborn. I feel it is more suited to a smaller baby who will grow with the sling. This also allows you to become more comfortable and experienced with securing them into the sling.
If you’re an experienced baby wearer then the little struggle I had may not be a problem for you, I just wanted to share my honest experience with trying this carrier. But as I said, once I got used to it, it was a great sling to wear.
