We all know how much I struggle at mealtimes with the boys. When kids just can’t seem to sit down at dinner you may feel as though the whole thing is impossible and that there is absolutely nothing that you can do about it.
If you want to make sure that your child is sitting down properly for dinner or if you want to make sure that they are appreciative of the food that you have put on the table then here are some foolproof strategies that will hopefully work.
Get Your Child Involved
One thing that you can do is try and get your child involved. If you get your child to help you out with dinner properly then they will feel invested in the meal before you even get started. You can get them to choose the vegetables that are served and you can also get them to help you measure as well.
If you know that there is a specific sauce that they are very excited for or if you know that they like certain colours then try and get this included in the meal as well to make the entire meal extra special.
Always Check your Child’s Seat
If your child does not have a comfortable seat then this can cause real problems for them. They may not be able to sit comfortably for long periods of time and they may also find it difficult to settle down as well. If you want to avoid this then one thing that you can do is buy an extendable dining table and 6 chairs. When you do this, you can easily help them to be more comfortable and this can work wonders if they are constantly irritable.
Of course, it really does help to have them choose the chairs with you. You may even want to give them a cushion if they are too short for the table. This will make the whole experience feel way more personalised for them and it can also help them to be way more comfortable along the way.
It’s All About the Rotation
Children like things that are brightly coloured and this is completely understandable. If you want to make the whole dining experience more fun for them then consider getting them their own set of knives and forks. These can come in a huge range of colours and on top of this, you can also incorporate colourful placemats as well.
You can do this on a rotation so that your child has something new to look forward to every mealtime and you can also really help them out by giving them a glass of their favourite juice when they sit down as well. This is one of the best ways for you to get them excited and it completely transforms the whole dining experience as well.
There really are so many things that you can do to help your child to stay sat at the table and when you incorporate the above tips and tricks into your routine, you can really help them to be more relaxed throughout the whole dining experience.
Choosing cutlery is one thing I let the boys do every meal time and they love being given the choice!
