With Halloween around the corner I though I would share with you my favourite Halloween themed movies suitable for the whole family.
I’ll be honest, I don’t like scary movies. I can’t watch any adult horrors, so don’t come to me if you want recommendations! It’s been about 10 years since I last watched a scary film. I watched Saw as a teenager and I’ve been put off since!
Family friendly Halloween movies however are totally fine ๐
A favourite in any household is Hocus Pocus
. If you haven’t seen it then… well… have you been living under a rock?! ๐ Watch it immediately.
I absolutely loved this movie as a child. I remember reenacting the scenes with my friends at primary school! We would all argue over who got to be Sarah (‘the pretty one’) and I would always win ๐ I looked the most like her after all! Long blonde hair, blue eyes…
Next up we have another classic, and that’s Casper! I’s been years since I watched this movie, and to be honest, I can’t remember much about it! It’s definitely time to dust off the old dvd and watch it this Halloween with Lamb. I remember thinking Casper as a boy was super cute when I was little!
I think Christina Ricci was a fab child actor and she will be making an appearance later on in the list!
We watched Hotel Transylvania
for the first time a couple of weeks ago and Lamb is obsessed! We all love it and have been watching it a couple of times a week! We also too Lamb to see Hotel Transylvania 2 at the cinema last week, and he didn’t take his eyes of the screen!
He’s really getting into halloween and learning the characters. At the moment his favourite is Frankenstein, who he calls “Frankenstone!”
I highly recommend buying this DVD and watching as a family this Halloween.
A movie I will never, ever get bored of is The Nightmare Before Christmas. A Halloween movie or a Christmas movie?! Who cares, I’ll watch it on both occasions!
Tim Burton is a genius and has made some of my favourite films and this has to be one of his most popular (in my opinion), I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love it!
So maybe the little ones might be a little scared that Santa Claus is kidnapped, but it all works out in the end!
I love The Addams Family! The cast is amazing and it’s such a good movie! I also love the sequel Addams Family Values
. Christina Ricci Plays Wednesday so well, I think she is my fave character in the movie. ย He’s got a love for Frankenstein at the mo, so I reckon he’ll love Lurch!
I’ve just checked and it’s on Neflix! Yay! That’s tonights movie sorted.
So there’s my top 5 Halloween movies for families. There’s a few more I could add like Coraline, Frankenweenie
, Corpse Bride
ย and Monster House
ย but I haven’t seen them! These are on my list to watch this year.
What are your favourite Halloween family movies? I’m sure I’ve probably missed some classics!
Ax

My all time favourite is Hocus Pocus. Its such a great film. I love it when Bette Midler sings I’ll put a spell on you – fabulous.
Hocus Pocus is an absolute classic I remember watching that when I was younger and Casper too. Great list!
This is such a great idea :). We actually went to the cinema yesterday to see Hotel Transylvania two which Monkey loved so we will definitely be investing in the first one. Casper is one of my favourites too. Happy Halloween.
I’m the same as you, I hate horrors. I’ve only watched a couple and decided that I’d never watch one again! I love Hocus Pocus, and really enjoyed Hotel Transylvania. I haven’t watched the others so will definitely have to give them a go ๐ x
I too hate scary movies! I’m the worst. These look good – the only ones I’ve seen are the Adams Family movies which were hilarious! Thanks for compliling a non-scary list! x
I have only seen one of these! Need to up my game or I will be letting Baby down x
Unlike you, i absolutely LOVE adult horror films but no-one else in my family does so i’m never allowed to watch them (& it gets a bit creepy on your own if i’m honest. lol!) but you’ve got some fab family alternatives here sweetie. I mean, who hasn’t watched Casper or The Nightmare Before Christmas? And as for Hocus Pocus – that has to be my all-time favourite Halloween movie, it takes me right back to my childhood and i love that my boys enjoy it as much as i did when i was their age. xxx
I absolutely love love love Hocus Pocus – it never gets old! I do remember it frightening me though when I was very small, so think I’ll have to wait a few more years before I get to watch it with my daughter. This has made me want to go home tonight and watch it after she goes to bed!
