Today we have the super lovely blogger Mim taking part in my ’13 Questions With…’ series.
- When did you start up your blog and why?
I started my blog in 2013 after the birth of my first baby. I wanted a place to record some family life and reviews of the baby products we really loved.
I only started blogging really consistently though a year later during my second pregnancy. I started doing weekly pregnancy updates and shared some of the parenting tips and tricks I’d picked up.
These days, and since changing my blog name from Mama Mim to Love from Mim, I blog about absolutely anything I like!
- What is the most important thing you’ve learned since you started blogging and what advice would you give to a newbie blogger?
I’ve learned to write when I want to write and not to worry if there are big gaps between my posts. I write only when I feel inspired to and I only write about what I want. I’m not trying to be someone else and I feel like I have my own voice.
My advice to other bloggers is to only write when you feel inspired to and to have patience to find your voice – it might take a while or it might not but always stay true to yourself.
- Which has been your most popular blog post?
It’s a post on how to get the house ready for a newborn baby – I get hundreds of views on it each day! I think it went a little viral on Pinterest. It’s my recommendations on the kind of things you need to prepare so that when you bring your baby home, it’s stress-free (ish!) and organised.
- Do you blog as a hobby or as a job?
I blog predominantly as a hobby but I also do have a small income from it.
- What do you do to stop getting blogging burn out?
I know when to stop – or I try to. It’s really as I mentioned above in that I only write when I’m inspired to but on those days when I’m not, I’m generally doing something from my very long blogging To Do list. I’m always looking at ways to make my blog look better and be more user friendly but it’s so easy to feel like that To Do list is never-ending. I force myself to stop because at the end of the day the world isn’t going to end if I don’t do something on my blog or one day or even one month! It’s hard though, blogging is addictive.
- Who are your favourite bloggers to read and vloggers to watch on YouTube?
I love so so many that it’s difficult to list them all! I no longer read many books, it’s all blogs. I love yours of course J as well as You Baby Me Mummy, Mr & Mrs T Plus Three, Honest Mum and What the Redhead Said. They are the ones I read daily and I get that ping of excitement when a new post arrives into my Inbox!
- What are your blogging pet peeves?
Those annoying automated direct messages when you follow someone on Twitter – STOP THAT. I’m also not a big fan of blogs where every post is sponsored content and not their own – not that I don’t expect someone to make an income! I just really like reading about the blogger and their life and recommendations too so I like a balance.
- What’s your biggest aspiration for your blog in 2016?
Well I’m about half way through a “spring clean” of my blog and I’m determined to finish that! I’ll be blogging about that soon J. Otherwise, I really just want to continue blogging as I am now – I’m so happy with my new blog name and rebranded blog and I love that I can now write about anything.
- What were your career aspirations when you were at school?
I think I wanted to be a Pop Star and I’m not really on track for that. Apparently I can’t sing – sob sob!
- Do you find balancing work/blog/family/life a struggle?
You know, I do but at the same time I have SO much support from my husband and parents that I really can’t complain too much. I do find blogging addictive though and it’s a struggle sometimes to shut off from that so I can give my all to my family. I can always, always get better at that.
- How do you get exposure for your blog and what is your favourite social media site?
My favourite is Pinterest – I just love pretty pictures! Pinterest and Instagram are my favourite social media platforms although for blog exposure, it’s Pinterest hands down. Twitter moves a bit too fast for me.
- If you had £1000 to spend on yourself, what would you buy?
Oooh I could do a lot with £1000! It would be a weekend break with my husband somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a fridge full of champagne and chocolate!
- Which 3 famous people (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party?
Oh easy – Jon Bon Jovi, Gary Barlow and David Beckham – I won’t elaborate, this is a family blog after all!
I love your choices to number 13 Mim! Davis Beckham… yum.
Make sure you check out Mim’s blog Love From Mim, it’s a gorgeous blog and well worth a look.
