Well, well, well, we’re at the 3 month mark! Can you believe it?! My baby boy is growing up so fast, but I’m loving every second and trying to soak him up as much as possible. The past month has flown by. We are now getting our first giggles which is adorable. He’s found his voice and babbles so much, and if you don’t pick him up quick enough he’ll definitely tell you about it!
His relationship with Lamb is growing by the day. They are besotted with each other, it’s just perfect.
Feeding
Feeding has slowed down a little which is great for me as I’m getting more time to do things between feeds. We are still exclusively breastfeeding and it’s going great. I have no intention of moving to bottles anytime soon (although I am trying him with one every few days). In the early days I produced so much milk and my let down was super fast so BB only fed for a few minutes at a time. Now he feeds for around 10/15 minutes, which still doesn’t sound like long, but it is for us!
The past week we’ve had a few days of feeding every 3 hours, but most days it’s every 2. We are definitely in a pattern at night and if we fall out of it my energy levels take a hit and I struggle the following day.
Sleeping
BB definitely tells us when he’s tired. He’s super grizzly and then crashes. I can normally tell which cries mean he’s tired. He usually cluster feeds in the evenings from around 5pm and then between 7 and 8pm I take him to bed for his last feed in the hope of him falling asleep between 7:30 and 8:30pm. Our routine has been like this for a few weeks now.
Putting him down is pretty straightforward. He either falls asleep in my arms after his feed so I put him down asleep or he’s quite happy to be put into his bednest awake and I’ll play white noise on my phone to help him drift off (and it works brilliantly!)
BB dropped a night feed a couple of weeks ago. He now sleeps appraise 5-6 hours once he’s in bed and wakes for his next feed around 1am. Some nights it’s a little earlier, some nights a little later, but dropping his 11pm feed means I can get a good few hours before the night feeds begin.
After his big sleep he goes back to feeding every 2-3 hours, so we will have a 1am is feed, 3am is feed and then around 6am. I can usually get him back to sleep at 6am until his big brother wakes us up around 7am!
Naps during the day are sporadic and rarely longer than 1 hour. I’m hoping to start putting him in his crib for daytime naps soon.
Development
We’ve had our second jabs now which hardly bothered him at all. A few tears and he was back to his happy self.
BB has been rolling from his front to his back for a few weeks now and it was such a shock the first time he did it as his brother was very lazy! He is already showing signs of crawling and brings his knees up when he’s on his front and drags himself along the floor. Again, this is so shocking to watch as Lamb couldn’t crawl until after he walked!
This may sound crazy but I’ve definitely noticed him show interest when I’m eating. I’m hoping more than anything he’s going to be a good eater, my brain couldn’t handle another fussy eater! I’ll be going down the BLW route when he’s 6 months (which is only 3 months away and I’m terrified).
I don’t know why, but BB still HATES being in the car. He has improved slightly, but he literally screams until he can’t scream anymore of we are in the car for too long. Sometimes I think it’s trapped wind, but sometimes I think he’s just being a pain. I’ve actually started playing white noise to him on my phone and I have managed to drive a little longer without him crying. All hail white noise!
I’m really starting to love learning how to ‘mother’ him. I now know he needs white noise to relax and sleep. I know his tired signals, hungry signals, dirty nappy signals. I know how to make him smile, how to make him giggle. I know him, and I love him.
I’ve had a few tough days this month but boy I love having my babies.
