Our imaginative #MagicSquaresPlayDates
Petits Filous are asking how we put the magic into play dates, and my answer is with imagination!
Lamb has a wonderful imagination, and a surprisingly good memory. He is a fan of many TV characters who play a huge part in our play dates. Tree Fu Tom comes along with us to the woods, the Mister Maker shapes always make an appearance during arts & crafts, and well, Mr Tumble is ever present (in the form of a spotty bag!)
Lamb loves role play and always wants to help mummy around the house; he loves doing ‘grown up’ stuff. He regularly makes me a cup of tea in his kitchen, and often cooks me a ‘bapple’ with his frying pan. Who doesn’t love a fried apple? Of course, he dresses for the occasion. No tea and fried ‘bapple’ should be served to his ‘guests’ without the correct attire…
I’m a working mum, but only part time. I get 2 days a week just me and Lamb; those days are my fave. Tuesdays are usually spent with our friends. AM at play group, PM at the zoo or our local soft play. Wednesdays are usually just the two of us; a day of quality time.
Depending on the weather (and my mood) we will either jump in the car to somewhere fun or spend the day indoors in our pjs. Whatever we do we like to be imaginative.
If we are walking to our local supermarket Lamb takes his shopping trolley and pennies. He is just so independent! Off he goes armed with everything he needs to pick up a few bits from the shop.
Even our lunch is imaginative. Lamb chooses the shape of his toast or sandwiches. At the moment he likes them to be in squares, but sometimes it’s triangles. If he’s been good I’ll treat him to a packet of hula hoops which are most likely to be eaten from the ends of his fingers!
Lamb loves yoghurt, so we were obviously very excited to try the new Petits Filous Magic Squares. The packaging is super fun and very attractive to kids. It’s also nice the pots are bigger, as I normally give Lamb 2 if not 3 yogurts after his dinner. He can’t get enough!
The flavours are really yummy (yes, I had a sneaky taste). Mixing the strawberry and raspberry with vanilla is a really great touch. It makes them more of a dessert and ‘treat’ for the little ones. Healthy and full of vitamin D and calcium, but super yummy!

In our house we even like to make the housework fun. I turn everyday household chores into games. Lamb carries the laundry outside and helps me peg it to the washing line. He puts away his clean and nicely folded clothes (which are no longer nicely folded once he’s done with them). He loves emptying the dishwasher too (no idea why) and is so good at putting his toys “back” once he’s done with them. I still don’t understand why my house is such a mess?
In our opinion ‘magic’ can be put into any play date with a pinch of creativity and a dash of imagination.

I think it’s time to diet again…
For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I often follow the Weight Watchers diet. I’ve reached goal twice in the past. Once a few years ago when I gained a lot of weight before I knew I had an under active thyroid, and once to lose my baby weight. You can read about my weight loss journey here.
After our wedding in December I’ve kinda given up on ‘watching my weight’. I’ve pretty much spent the last 2 years being careful, and I felt it was only fair that I had a break from dieting (and a fair amount of Chinese!)
Well, you see, the jeans are getting tight (I’m still in my goal size, but only just!) and the rolls have appeared. So nows the time to start the diet again.
I’m not going back to weight watchers (yet). I’m just going to start following some of the things I learned when I was a member.
Things like…
- wholemeal foods e.g. pasta, rice and bread.
- low fat… everything.
- diet drinks.
- bulk out foods with veggies.
- skimmed milk (I still use this).
- low calorie cooking spray (I still use this, but not every time).
- no crisps! (apart from the odd bag or french fries).
- no sweets or chocolate!! (I’ll try my best, I promise).
- no McDonalds! (i’m kinda addicted at the mo).
Weight watchers is more of a lifestyle change rather than a diet. It takes a lot of planning and organising. I have to have the right foods in the house to make sure I can have healthy meals and not be tempted by the freezer… which leads on to my next blog series… grocery and meal planning!
Each fortnight I’ll aim to write up what I’ve bought, how much I’ve spent and what meals I’ll be making. I’d like to do it weekly, but I know I’ll never find the time. I struggle to keep up with blogging at the mo and if I put too much pressure on myself I’ll crack.
I’ve been inspired by a few other bloggers to get into meal planning. I particularly like Kerry’s posts over on Oh So Amelia, and weekly vlogs from Charlotte at Write Like No Ones Watching, and Kerry over at Lived with Love. I highly recommend you watch their videos.
Check back next week for my first meal plan and grocery haul!

Weekend Baby Style #12
Unfortunately I’ve had to cheat again this week! We’ve been so busy visiting family that I haven’t taken any photos of Lambs outfits.
This weeks weekend baby style is an outfit from our trip to Bluestones recently.
His amazing yellow raincoat is from Bluezoo at Debenhams. I don’t know how much it cost as it was a gift from Grandma. I’m obsessed with this colour and think Lamb (and mummy) can really pull it off!
His Buzz t-shirt (his fave) is from Next and his trousers are from H&M, again I’m not sure on price, sorry!
Both hats are from H&M and his shoes are from Next.
Sorry this has been brief. It’s almost 10pm and I need sleep!
