Being a work at home mum there are often days I really need to get something done while I have the boys at home. With the fast approaching summer holidays around the corner I need to ensure I have plenty to keep them entertained while I’m working.
I know being at home all day can make them a little frustrated, but as long as you are doing whatever you can to make the home more enjoyable, you will find that you end up having a much better day than expected.
Here’s a few ideas of how too keep the kids entertained when at home.
Television
It’s no great surprise that many children enjoy watching television. But you might have second thoughts about making it a huge part of their home life. The truth is that there is nothing wrong with having television in the home as long as you have some rules. What to watch, when to watch it, how much to watch, and so on. As long as you do that, television can be a great way to keep them entertained. And if you are careful about the content, it micanht even be educational and informative too. If you think you would like to get more television options into your home for the sake of your children, consider having digital aerials installed or getting a freeview box.
Games
Playing games is something children are always going to want to do. This could mean video games, board games, or even garden games. By providing plenty of games of all kinds, you will be able to keep your children happy and active and entertained, and make sure that the home is a much more enjoyable place to be on the whole.
Reading
Encouraging your children to read is absolutely one of the best things you can do for their mental and psychological development. Reading regularly is proven to have a number of distinct positive effects in the long term. It’s definitely something to think about if you are trying to ensure that your children are well entertained and looked after in the home on the whole. Make sure you are providing plenty of books. This is a great way of developing your kids into well-rounded and intelligent individuals, while also providing entertainment for them in the home.
Arts and Crafts
One thing I can always reply on to keep my children happy on a day at home is a variety of arts and crafts. Whether we get out the play dough, crayons, or even stamps, the boys will sit for half and hour happily creating something colourful. They also love stickers and I find the Melissa and Doug reusable stickers the best for keeping them happy. They don’t lose their stick!
As long as you have the above in your home, you can be sure of it being a much more enjoyable and entertaining place for your children to be. We can’t always give them our full attention. But ensuring they have plenty of stimulation will ensure they enjoy a day at home.
