A family movie-night is something that can everyone can enjoy. It’s a great way to spend an evening together and just relax. Which can be nice if not everyone has the energy for something upbeat. It is especially nice during the winter season when we can light a fire, get cosy, set up with a cup of tea or hot cocoa, and settle in under the blankets.
I have to say, sometimes choosing a movie can feel like it takes the same amount of time as it does to watch one! So I thought I’d share a couple that my family has enjoyed on our nights-in. Plus, these are currently all available on uk.chili.com, which makes finding and watching the film that much easier.
Coco
“Coco” is an animated film about a twelve-year-old boy named Miguel who has a love for music and lives in a small city in Mexico. However, his great-great-grandfather was a musician who left his family for his career and has given being a musician a bad name according to his family. The movie follows Miguel along his journey when he ends up in the confetti-coloured Land of the Dead, where one only exists if remembered by the living, and connects with his ancestor. It’s a sweet story that won two Oscars and became the biggest blockbuster in Mexican history.
I’d say it’s in my top 5 Disney movies.
Earth: One Amazing Day
“Earth: One Amazing Day” is a documentary about wild animals. It shows the true struggles they go through when facing predators as well as environmental risks that can present significant challenges. You’ll get to learn about the lives of reptiles, pussycats, zebras, bears and so many other animals. The movie is intended to be suitable for families, so the brutal side of nature is not emphasized throughout the documentary.
My Pet Dinosaur
‘My Pet Dinosaur’ is a family adventure movie about a young boy named Jake who accidentally makes a new friend, and not just any friend. After an experiment takes an unexpected turn, Jake gets a new and quite mischievous pet dinosaur and after a failed attempt to try to keep it a secret, the movie follows him and his new pet along on their adventure.
One thing that my family loves to do is take turns on who gets to select the movie. While it is fun to have traditions and a go-to for a family movie-night, it can also be a fun family activity to mix it up all together! For example, you can pick a theme that suits the film you are watching, and prepare some snacks to enjoy during the film and select a game to play afterwards that fit the theme.
What are some of your favourite things to do for a family movie night?
