With the Summer fast approaching keeping my boys hydrated is my new mission by finding more ways to get them drink more water.
I was recently contacted by BWT and asked if I wanted to try and review their Mineralised Water Filter Jug and try out some of their BWT Gourmet Water drink recipes.
The idea behind the jug sounded great so I was definitely happy with giving it a try with my family.
“The BWT Magnesium Mineralized Water Filter Jugs use patent protected Magnesium technology which exchanges calcium ions for magnesium ions. This reduces the pH level more than other table water filters creating delicious magnesium-enriched water with a better taste, as well as improving the flavour of the meals and drinks prepared with it.”
What I’ve learned from BWT is competitor brands remove the vital mineral magnesium from filtered water. With the BWT jug magnesium is constantly being added to the water during filtration. This gives a more neutral pH level as well as a more delicious flavour, particularly in tea and coffee.
As someone who drinks a lot of coffee I was interested to see how the flavour changed when I used the mineralised water!
My little Bear cub has recently found a new love for fruit juices and squash. We’ve gone as long as we could without giving him anything but water and milk, but he’s now 2 and we allow him to have juice every now and then.
The problem is, now he’s had squash he gets angry when I give him water. Not all of the time, but some times his terrible twos kick in when he realises it’s water I’ve given him.
I’ve never made fruit infused water before, but figured this could be a great alternative to giving Bear squash.
The recipe I tried was Strawberry and Mint. The recipe includes ginger but on this occasion I left it out.
The recipe for the strawberry and mint water is simple. Pour 1.5L of mineralised water into a jug along with 6 thinly sliced strawberries, and 3 stems of mint with leaves. I chose to leave the ginger out, but if you like ginger add 5 thin slices of ginger. Leave the water to steep for 10-15 minutes.
I chose this recipe because I felt it would be the most recognisable to Bear. Strawberry is a sweet but subtle flavour, which he would hopefully like when added to his water.
The strawberry and mint water was really delicious. If I’m honest, I’m not usually a fan of flavoured waters, especially home made ones, but of course I wanted to try the fruit infused mineralised water.
I actually liked it!
Bear helped me put his into a little paper cup for him to try. He’s extremely independent at the moment and insists on helping with EVERYTHING.
But as this is water, a little spill here and there won’t matter 🙂
With the nice weather finally making an appearance, myself and the boys are embracing the extra time out in the garden Taking a jug of fruit infused water outside with us means everyone stays hydrated while having fun. Win win!
The recipes are super easy to make. Not only are we using a nicer tasting water, we’re adding natural fruit flavours, allowing the boys to get a little more fruit into them whilst quenching their thirst. This is definitely something I’ll be making more often!
A little bit more about the jug:
- ~2.7 litres volume
- ~120 litres per cartridge
- ~LCD – Display
- ~Available in 5 colours
- ~RRP £24.99
- ~Electronic Indicator offers a visual reminder of when to change the filter
- ~Fits any frigde door style 11.3 x 27.8 x 25.2 cm (W x H x D)
I am really glad we got to try out the BWT Magnesium Mineralized Water Filter Jug. I have genuinely noticed an improvement in the taste of drinks, specifically coffee! The taste is much less bitter and a lot smoother. For someone who drinks at least 3 cups of coffee a day (and I’m not ashamed of that ha) it was definitely a noticeable improvement.

Will have to try this with Freddie. He’s an odd child who turns down squash in favour of water!
The strawberry and mint water sounds lovely! I’m guilty myself of not drinking enough water!
This looks so reasonably priced for what it does. I love the sound of strawberry and mint. Will make that for my girls especially the oldest who I can’t get to drink a lot of water
Very clever !!! I love this idea. I am so going to do it too !! Thanks so much for the great idea x
My boys are 3 and 7 but still mostly drink water. They always have a water bottle on the go. They like theirs plain but I like mine infused with mint.
This looks ideal for summer time, luckily my little two love water but my teen never does x
Oo this flavoured water sounds so perfect for summer and the fact the water is mineralized is even better!
I have been looking for ways to cut out how much plastic bottles we use at home, but haven’t decided on a water filter yet. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
I am in a constant battle to get my daughter to drink more water I love the idea above and will have a go at making this water!
Wow, that’s a great discount being offered! My kids drink a lot of water, even straight out of the tap, but their preference is what they call “poppy water” which is from our carbonating machine. I’ve often thought about getting a water filter machine like this and it is great that adding some fruit as flavours worked in your house!
Great idea to add fruit to the water, I’ll have to try this for Aria.
