With this cold weather approaching we all seem to be getting the sniffles in the Lamb house. (I’m currently typing and blowing my nose at the same time. Ugh.)
Little Lamb has always been quite a hot baby. His temperature is always normal, but he gets very hot and sweaty on the surface. Specifically when he is teething or feeling a little run down. Taking his temperature has always been a struggle. He just won’t sit still! I’ve tried the digital thermometer that goes under his tongue or in his armpit. I can usually get a reading after a few attempts while pinning him down. I’ve also tried the forehead strip, which he seems to hate.
We were recently asked to review the brand new Braun ThermoScan 7 with Age Precision IRT6520. Errrrrrm…. YES PLEASE!
I seriously love this product. Every parent should own one. It literally takes a couple of seconds to read your baby’s temperature, and is a million times easier than the other methods available for taking a child’s temperature.
First of all you need to put a hygienic cap on the end of the thermometer. You then change this with every use. It clicks on easily and you simply push a button to remove.
To take a temperature switch the thermometer on and select the appropriate age on the display by pressing the button with the image of a crawling child.
Place the thermometer gently into the ear and press the thermometer button. Once the temperature has been registered it will flash up on the screen with either a green (normal), yellow (elevated) or red (high) light, telling you if the temperature is safe or dangerous.
Tonight, for the first time since Lamb was born (20 months ago), he has a raised temperature. If I’m honest, I don’t take his temperature enough. There are a couple of reasons for this. The first being I’ve always struggled with the standard thermometers, the second being Lamb’s temperature is always 36 degrees, even if he seems unwell and has a surface temperature.
Today his cold has got worse and worse. Daddy Lamb suggested we take his temperature, and to my surprise it was 38.9! The light on the display immediately flashed red and inside I panicked a little. I had no idea what to do! This was the first time he was over a safe temperature!
Luckily with a dose of calpol his temperature slowly lowered to 38 degrees, which then flashed up green (normal) for his age range. It is recommended that you speak to a doctor if your child’s temperature raises above 38 degrees, but as Lamb clearly had a cold, had no other symptoms and was drinking plenty, I felt comfortable monitoring him at home a little longer. Luckily the calpol lowered his temperature and he started feeling a little better.
Tonight I will continue to monitor his temperature using the Braun Thermoscan 7. I can take his temperature quietly and accurately without waking him up. Bliss!
Overall I’m really impressed with this product and highly recommend it to any parent. Knowing I can take Lamb’s temperature in a matter of seconds really puts my mind at ease.
