Redundancy has hit the Lamb household. Not once, but twice.
December 2014 Daddy Lamb, January 2015 Mummy Lamb.
Different jobs, different companies, different careers.
Ouch.
A million things fly through your mind when your partner is made redundant. A million more things when it’s yourself.
It’s stings a little; you automatically think “what did I do wrong?” But then you pinch yourself, snap out of your spiralling emotions and realise ‘it’s just business’.
So what’s next?
Daddy Lamb has an apprenticeship. He didn’t go one day unemployed. Trooper.
Mummy Lamb. Well, that’s a different story. What do I do?
My life is about to turn upside down. I’m entering the unknown. I’ve worked since I was 15. Paying my way. I’ve done all of the education I can. GCSEs, A Levels, Foundation Degree, BA Hons Degree.
But I’ve also started a family, bought a house and become a Mrs. All by the age of 28 years young.
Now I get to choose another path: a path with an unclear destination.
Am I scared? Yes. Am I excited. YES!
The world is my oyster and I’m going to explore it until I find my new direction. With 6 years design experience under my belt, I have no doubt I could get another job in fashion.
But is this what I want?
I’ve been given the opportunity to pick a whole new career if I want. Like my husband. Who is now training to be an electrician. A complete career change.
What if blogging became my full time job? What is I decide to be a stay at home mum? What if I decide to have another baby?!
Financially life is about to get really tough. We need to look at what we can bring into the house between us, what we can afford, what we can’t.
We have a loving and supporting family around us and amazing friends, who will all help guide us through this major change in our lives.
For that reason, I’m not worried.
Redundancy is often a last resort for a company to survive.
I understand that.
For the record, I hold no grudges against my employers for the difficult decision they have made.
Life is too short.
And I’m about to start mine all over again.
