Over the past week or so Lamb has done so well with his potty training and I’m such a proud mum!
We started potty training just before he turned 2 by introducing a potty in the living room and asking him if he wanted to use it every now and then. Our approach has been slow and steady and we’ve allowed him to make his own decisions about when to use the potty.
He’s been using the toilet and the potty for months now, but we came to a standstill when he refused to wear pants. He absolutely hated them! So I was letting him run around with no nappy on most of the time, but if we went out I’d put him in a pull up nappy.
I think when he refused to wear pants, I was too scared to let him go out without a nappy, I don’t know, maybe my confidence with training him was knocked a little.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and he suddenly wanted to wear pants! I’m still nervous about taking him out without a nappy, but I’m taking small steps like walking to our local shop, and driving to Grandmas house or nursery etc nappy free.
The past couple of days Lamb has done amazingly. He’s wearing big boy pants and going all day long without accidents. Yesterday I took his bedtime nappy off, dressed him and drove him to nursery. He spent the whole day at nursery with no accidents (unlike the week before when he wet himself 3 times!)
When he’s at home he will now take himself to the potty for a wee without telling me. I am confident about leaving the room for 10 minutes and know he won’t wee on the carpet!
Another struggle we’ve been having is getting him to do a number 2 on the potty or toilet. When he tells me he needs to go he will sit on the potty for a minute, but as it takes a little longer than a wee he gets a little embarrassed and says “I’ve not done it”. For a while he was asking for a nappy on to go, and I didn’t really have a choice or he would have done it anywhere!
This week he’s been so good at doing number 2’s on the potty or toilet. Sometimes I have to give him a little cuddle and back rub to comfort him, but he’s not asked for a nappy at all this week, so I’m really impressed with him!
I know a lot of parents go for the cold turkey approach and it has great success, but Lamb is quite shy and sensitive, and doesn’t like to be forced. He doesn’t like us changing things drastically and being pushy with him, so we are happy to approach things slowly.
If you’re in the process of potty training, or thinking of starting soon then you can read this post I wrote a couple of months ago about my tips on potty training.
Fingers crossed we can completely eliminate daytime nappies from now on!

We began the day meeting in the first Garfunkles for breakfast. I got to chat with some familiar faces and meet some new bloggers.
