As you may know I attended BritMums Live a few weeks ago. I’ve visited London plenty of times, in fact I lived in East London for a year while at university there, however I’ve rarely stayed there alone.
When Travelodge offered me the opportunity to review their new look rooms, I thought what better time to review then when I’m visiting London for BritMums Live? I stayed the London Central City Road hotel which is about a 10 minute walk from Liverpool Street station, and the same sort of distance from the venue. Ideal location for me.
From the outside the hotel looks quite small, but it’s actually pretty big with plenty of rooms. I stayed in a double with en suite and had breakfast included. The room was smaller than I expected, it was a good size for me as I was staying alone, however if my husband was with me and we both had a suitcase it would of been a tight squeeze with unpacking etc. There’s no way I could of stayed in the room with a travel cot, so I assume they put me in there as I wasn’t staying with anyone
The room was clean and tidy and had everything I needed, including a full length mirror! Well done Travelodge! I had a little kettle with complimentary tea and coffe (thumbs up from the coffee drinker) and a decent TV. Obviously being in London I would normally head out for dinner and having a TV in my room isn’t essential, however Saturday night most of the bloggers I met had gone home so I ended up in my room alone watching Harry Potter and eating a McDonalds! Classy Alex.
The bathroom wasn’t huge, but was very clean, had big mirror and good shower. The bed was comfy and I had plenty of cushions (I hate those flat, skinny ones you get in some hotels).
Obviously when writing a review it’s extremely important to be honest. I’m not a fussy customer, I don’t get annoyed over tiny things and wouldn’t include minor details in a post if I honestly thought it was a innocent mistake/issue that was easily rectified. With that said, I have to mention the temperature of the room. It was so hot. The hotel had even left a note on my dressing table apologising for the hot temperatures and tips on how to keep the room as cool as possible. I was pretty impressed with this effort. Even after following their instructions I still found myself insanely hot. The fan was blowing at all times. If i turned it off at any point, I wouldn’t go longer than 5 minutes without turning it back on. I can’t imagine how hot it would have been if there were 2 of us staying in that room.
If I’m honest the heat would probably stop me staying in the hotel again in the summer, I would definitely go back in cooler months as the location is ideal for me. The train I get to London travels to Liverpool Street so this hotel is perfect if I don’t want to travel across London with my bags and or baby. Of course there are plenty of Travelodge hotels in London and the rest of the country and I would definitely book to stay in one again.
I was really impressed with the breakfast buffet. There was a large selection of hot and cold food, and plenty to drink. As mentioned earlier, I’m a coffee drinker, particularly skinny cappuccinos, so if there’ a cappuccino on the menu I’ll try it. As you can see they had a coffee machine, which I normally don’t like (#coffeesnob), but it wasn’t that bad.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially the guy who was at the breakfast reception. My name wasn’t on the list due to it being a PR booking, but after explaining this to him he was more than happy to let me in for breakfast (maybe he knew I was reviewing 😉 )
If you’re looking for a good value, clean and friendly hotel than I would definitely recommend a Travelodge.
