Buying for a new baby is pretty easy. I have lots of ideas in this post. But what about new mums? I mean, she’s the one who has gone through the pain and struggle of childbirth, she deserves a gift too right?
What does a new mum really want though? I’m sure that question goes through a lot of peoples mind when thinking of gift ideas.
Do they want something because they are a mum, or something just for them? After giving birth twice and have *some* experience with receiving new mum gifts (not from my husband I’ll add – tut 😉 )
Here are my gift ideas for new mums.
First up are these Mummy Milestone Cards. We’ve all see the baby ones, but what about the milestones a new mum can achieve like finishing a hot drink before it get’s cold, or having a bubble bath in peace? I think these would be well received and any new mum would see the funny side of them.
I came across this New Mum Notebook today and it looks lovely! The pages are bright and colourful. There’s lots of different areas to make notes, and document your life as a new mum.
If you’re not keen on getting a notebook about being a new mum, then a a standard diary or notebook would be lovely. Baby brain will kick in and I’m sure she’d appreciate somewhere to jot things down!
If mum is breastfeeding, then she will most likely suffer with dry lips at some point. I certainly did! Rather than a standard pot of vaseline, why not get her something a little more special. This Burt’s Bees Naturally Nude Lips set would be such a nice gift (for any woman, not just a new mum!) Not only will it rehydrate her lips (burt’s bees is lush), but will add a bit of colour and make her feel a little more ‘made up’. We all know getting your make up done in those early days is pretty impossible…
You really can’t go wrong with a new pair of slippers. After giving birth new mums tend to sit around sipping tea with their feet up while enjoying sniffing their newborns head… ha yeah good one. But they would definitely appreciate a new pair of comfy slippers or even some PJs and a luxury nightgown.
Let’s put a smile on her face when things seem a little difficult with the Hurrah For Gin book. I have this book and it’s perfect for those times when you actually have 5 minutes peace. You don’t need to read the whole book in one go. You can just pick a section and spend a few minutes realising the crappy day you’re having is pretty common in parenthood!
What’s the one thing all new parents have in common? Lack of sleep. It comes with the territory. The night feeds become a little more bearable, but the chances are you’ll gain a few wrinkles and bags under your eyes will surface. Sorry to break it to you. If you want to make her feel good then buy her the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and OMG I love it. I really do notice a difference when I use it.
A pretty useful gift for a new mum if she is breastfeeding, is a water bottle. Breastfeeding is hard work and you have to keep your fluids up to avoid dehydration. You get so, so thirsty! I bought myself one from Sainsbury’s and it was definitely one of my most used products in those early months.
Having a bottle to take to bed, rather than a glass which could easily be knocked dover in a sleepy daze, is so much better.
I absolutely love my Selfish Mother sweatshirt and am proud to wear it. Four and a half years in, I still have to pinch myself that I’m a mother, not to one, but two beautiful, blonde, bubbly boys! I wear my Mother jumper holding their hands with my head held high. I’m a mother and it’s bloody hard work, but the most incredible honour. Look at me getting all emotional. Ha.
So there’s my gift ideas for new mums. Nothing too pricey, but lovely gestures that I’m sure will be well received.
