Way back when I first started dating my partner we went on our first holiday to Gran Canaria and instantly fell in love. Before Bear came along we were able to take Lamb on 2 holidays abroad. One to mainland Spain and the other to Gran Canaria. We loved it so much the first time we knew we wanted to visit again as a family.
I can’t remember the resort we stayed in (it wasn’t one of the more popular areas) but we were around a half an hour taxi ride from where we stayed the first time. We took a day trip to the exact place we stayed all those years ago and loved walking along the same beach with our little family.
The beaches in Gran Canaria are just beautiful. The sand dunes are simply breathtaking. Lovely soft sand perfect for little hands and toes to play in. The island in general is just lovely. Friendly locals, great public transport and lots of excursions to go on for all ages. We didn’t go on any as Lamb was a little young, but if we were to go back when the boys are older the waterpark is well worth a visit.
The hotel we stayed in was perfect for our little family. It had some basic entertainment for the kids, but most importantly it had a soft play area! The cocktails weren’t too bad either…
Oh and did I mention the splash park?? This was amazing. Plenty of sun beds for parents, and a huge splash area for the kids. It honestly made a huge difference to our holiday. It gave us something else to entertain Lamb with each day. Especially ads he wasn’t so confident in the water.
Having said that, it was this holiday where he learned to swim with a rubber ring by himself!
The flight time to Gran Canaria is a little longer than mainland Spain, so if you don’t mind the 4ish hour flight then I highly recommend a family trip to the Island.
We would absolutely love to go again with Bear. (When he’s old enough to understand “sit still” and “no” and pretty much any other command I give him! HA).
I also need to wait until he stops running off at any given moment. Although running up and down the beach after him would be a great way to lost the last bit of baby weight I’m clinging on to!
If you fancy Gran Canaria for you next family holiday you could book with Holiday Gems, who have a great selection of hotels are apartments to offer you.

Aw it looks so fun, love your photos! We’ve never been on a family holiday before but are heading to Barbados in December, I’m so nervous about taking my little boy on the plane as it is a long flight, I think he’ll be both fascinated and bored stiff haha! Loving your blog and your little ones are so cute 😀 xx
