My Top 5 Holiday Essentials, and Top 5 For Everyone Else #MarkWarnerMum

holiday titleI’ll be honest, I wasn’t going to enter the #MarkWarnerMum competition. I knew the quality of posts would be off the scale, and recently my anxiety has put blogging on the back burner. Not only that, but I’m a Virgo, a creative Virgo, which means my creative freedom fights my need for perfection on a daily basis. This isn’t good for my mood. A lot of projects are usually left unfinished. Hence why I didn’t want to put the pressure on myself to enter this competition.

Having said that, this weekend we took a drive to Yorkshire to visit my family. My husband took a couple of days off work and we spent a few days relaxing and spending quality time as a family. We got home last night and something changed. I decided going for this opportunity of a lifetime; allowing my children to go on a holiday we could never provide, was worth the stress and rush of putting together my entry in 24 hours. Because the deadline is tonight.

So here you go, my top 10 holiday essentials with a twist. 5 are my holiday essentials and 5 and everyone else’s. And just for fun, I let me creative freedom take over and design a couple of Mark Warner souvenirs!

A Brilliant Bank Holiday

bank holiday pinLet’s face it, we all expect it to rain on Bank Holiday Monday, but to everyone’s surprise it’s been lovely! I had such a busy weekend seeing lots of friends and family, I felt the need to write about it and document such a fun few days.

Thursday

My older brother, his partner and my niece all came to stay at my younger brothers house. They live 180 miles away so we don’t see them as much as I’d like, so when they do come down we try to cram in loads of fun stuff.

Thursday we all hung out at my younger brothers house and the kids enjoyed some quality time together. My niece and nephew are both 4 years old, and Lamb is 3 1/2 so they get on really well, my other niece turns 2 in September so she’s starting to enjoy their company too. Poor little BB has some catching up to do!

Friday

We all packed up the cars and drove to Jimmys Farm in Suffolk. We had such great day although the weather was way too hot for me. Being blonde and fair I struggle with the heat and generally don’t like being sweaty.

Luckily it wasn’t too busy and I even managed to catch a new Pokemon 😉

My older brother etc came to our house for a bit so my niece and Lamb could run around the garden with the hose to cool down. We enjoyed a game of Crazy Chefs before they headed to my younger brothers house for the night.

Saturday

We all headed to the Zoo at around 3pm. Lamb loves animals, he says his favourites are elephants. Another great family day spent eating ice cream, seeing animals and catching Pokemon.

Sunday

Today myself, the hubby and kids had a family (hubbys family) celebration a couple of hours away. So this day was spent with the in laws etc. We had a meal at 3:30pm then a party at 7:30pm. Both kids were so well behaved. In fact, BB didn’t cry at all in the car… a first! I honestly don’t know what his deal is with the car but he literally screams his little heart out during almost every journey. Sometimes I think it’s wind, sometimes I think he just misses me. I mean, who wouldn’t? 😉 To our surprise we had a super smooth journey there.

By around 9pm Lamb was asking to go to bed (totally unlike him) so we walked back to our hotel. We stayed in a family room in a Travelodge and it was fab. Super spacious and it had  a kettle with tea and coffee. Perfect!

Monday

We were meeting my brothers and family for breakfast the next morning so we couldn’t have a lay in unfortunately and were back in the car home at 8:30am. The journey home wasn’t as smooth and we were around 3/4 of the way back when BB had a little explosion and woke himself up. I had a feeling it would happen as he hadn’t been in a while and we all know babies like to do it at the most inconvenient time and place!

We all met up at our local Toby Carvery for a buffet breakfast and then we had Lambs BFFs 3rd birthday party to go to.

Wow I’m getting tired just writing this!

The party was lots of fun. There was burgers and ice cream and the Frozen soundtrack on repeat. Oh, and of course the sun was shining!

Overall I’d say we had a fun filled bank holiday weekend and saw so many family members in such a short period of time!

A Family Holiday – Butlins Bognor Regis Review #ButlinsAmbassadors

butlins review pinBack in April we headed to Butlins Bognor Regis for our first holiday as Butlins Ambassadors. The week we stayed was one of their Just For Tots weeks which are aimed at under 5’s. It was our last holiday as a family of 3 and we couldn’t wait. One last opportunity to spoil Lamb and spend quality time together before BB arrived. I can honestly say we couldn’t have asked for a better holiday. We absolutely loved it.

Top 5 Holiday Pet Peeves

holiday pinToday I’ve been thinking about what really bugs me when going on holiday. Since Lamb came along, my patience hasn’t been great, I mean taking a toddler isn’t on holiday isn’t easy, and the stuff they need is insane!

We’ve taken Lamb on a few holidays since he was born. A couple in the UK and a couple abroad. I have to admit I find the UK holidays less stressful. I just fill the car with as much as I can and drive.

My holiday pet peeves…

  1. Queue jumping. There’s nothing worse than queuing patiently for some idiot to think they can just walk to the front. Whether that be at the airport, waiting for a local bus or queueing for the water slide. You don’t want to jump the queue I’m in….
  2. Plane passengers that get up and find their hand luggage as soon as the plane lands. Seriously. Where are you going? We all know it takes ages for the plane to actually park up, the stairs etc to be attached and for the hostess to open the doors. You’re just irritating!
  3. Luggage allowance. Please, please please weigh your bags before you get to the airport! It’s not hard! The amount of times I’ve had to wait while people rush to unpack their bags and rearrange so they don’t have to pay the fees for being over weight. We’re all tired and bored of waiting.
  4. Packing. This is actually a personal pet peeve. I HATE PACKING. I’ve been known to cry during packing. Honestly. I just get so worked up about what we need to take. I panic about forgetting something. I think too much about the weather, “what if it rains”, “what if it’s hotter then expected”. I’m really one of those holiday makers that takes everything but the kitchen sink.
  5. Sunbed savers. We all hate this don’t we, but we all do it. Because we don’t have much choice. There’s never enough beds! Fair enough if you put your towels out, go for breakfast and come back after an hour, I’ll accept that. BUT if you put towels on your bed and bugger off all day and think you can come back at 4pm for the last few hours of sun, you’re really going to boil my blood. Just. Plain. Selfish.

I could go on, but I’ll stop at 5. None of this ever ruins my holiday, but let’s be honest, it would be so much nicer if these 5 pet peeves were a little less stressful.

Summertime Holiday Crafts with Bostik

Firstly, I’m sorry this is so late, I should of posted this a week ago, but I’m just so behind with blogging. Secondly, I apologise for my lack of craft projects recently. Each month we are sent a box of crafty goodies from Bostik which I have tried my hardest to use with Lamb. The things is, we have gone through a bit of a dry spell when it comes to being creative. He’s lost interest.

Well, that’s not entirely true. He always asks to paint and colour, but his concentration lasts all of 5 minutes before he’s running off looking for toy trains.

This month I managed to sit with him for an hour and create some holiday crafts. Not a lot but I’m happy we actually finished a project!

summertime holiday craftsGlittery Lollipops. 

Using glittery card, random things to decorate and coloured lollipop sticks we made ourselves some glittery lollipops. This is the perfect little project for toddlers. Give them a glue stick and let them stick, stick, stick!. Then simply cut out the lollipop shapes and attach to the lollipop sticks. Alternatively you can cut the lollipop shape out first, then decorate.

summertime holiday craftssummertime holiday craftsLamb has a love for anything lollipop at the moment so absolutely loved this craft project. Obviously I have themed this on holidays, but you can create lollipops for all themes. How about easter lollipops, christmas lollipops, or even halloween?

Mini Name Bunting

In our little box of goodies we got some really cute little flags for bunting. Using colourful foam letters, I made some mini bunting to hang up on Lambs bedroom wall. To keep with the holiday theme I attached a wooden bucket and spade shape to the end! This would be really easy to make from scratch. All you need is fabric, a hole punch and some string!

This could be a really lovely gift for someone. Maybe baby girl/boy bunting for a new baby? Or congratulations bunting for someone who has achieved something or got married? What about making bunting for a new home with really pretty floral and striped fabrics?
