I honestly don’t know how some bloggers do weekly pregnancy updates, I literally have nothing to update you on, or nothing I think you’re interested in hearing about. Maybe you are interested, and maybe I need to just jot notes down each day about thoughts and feelings throughout my pregnancy.
I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem to come naturally to update you on my pregnancy.
I’ve decided to write a 27 week update because I’m due to have a few consultations in the next few weeks so maybe I can get into the swing of writing fortnightly updates. I’ve also got a third scan n April which I’m really excited about. I didn’t have growth scans with Lamb (even though I should have) so this will be a first.
So how am I feeling?
Overall I’m feeling pretty good. Of course I get tired, who wouldn’t when they are 27 weeks pregnant and looking after an almost 3 year old. I’ve found myself being a little impatient recently. Not every day, but I have off days when nothing can happen quick enough. I find myself snapping at Lamb for taking too long to do something or climbing the stairs to go to the toilet, which I feel awful about. Then I have days where I’m feeling really relaxed and chilled out and I can’t get enough of Lamb and his cheeky ways. I miss him when he’s at nursery when I’m in those moods, but when I’m feeling a little stressed, Thursdays can’t come quick enough.
I’m also feeling extra tired because we are struggling with Lambs bedtime routine (again). He only wants to sleep with mummy and has been having really late nights (one night I’m pretty sure he didn’t fall asleep until 11;30pm!) I have no idea where he gets his energy from, his eating is worse than ever and there are days where he has nothing at all. I’m starting to really worry about his health, but no one else seems to worry, they just say “he’s obviously getting what he needs from what he does eat and the milk he drinks”. Well, maybe, but I still worry.
The anxiety I suffered with in the first trimester hasn’t completely gone. It comes back every now and then, mainly when I allow myself to think about being pregnant or giving birth. I’m not actually scared at all, but I do get a wave of anxiety every now and then. I just try to ignore it an breath through it.
What is baby up to?
Baby is still very active. He kicks regularly throughout the day. He used to have a kicking routine. It would get to 4:30pm and he would wake up and have a rave. Now he ricks a little more randomly throughout the day. I’ve felt kicks on both sides of my tummy at the same time which is pretty crazy, I’m sure he must be doing star jumps in there! I have no idea which way he’s facing, the kicks are pretty low so he’s probably feet down or something. By this stage in my first pregnancy Lamb was head down and stayed head down so my ribs had a beating for a while, this baby, however, is much more wriggly and is certainly turning a lot more.
Any symptoms?
I’m suffering with bad heartburn again. I hate it. I suffered with Lamb and this time seems to be worse. If I leave it too long between meals or snacks then the heart burn gets really bad, so even when I’m not hungry I have to eat to prevent the heartburn. I also have a hot spot at the top of my bump which feels like someone is holding a flame to the inside of my bump. It’s basically hot 24 hours a day and eventually my skin will go numb and I’ll loose the feeling in it, this is what happened with Lamb. It took weeks after he was born for the feeling to come back! Anyone else suffer with this?
I’m also getting tightening feelings in my lower bump. Do these count as braxton hicks? I can’t remember if I had them with Lamb. They don’t last too long, maybe 30 seconds at the most and they don’t hurt. It just feels like baby is pushing really hard against my bump and it goes really hard.
As mentioned earlier I still suffer with a bit of anxiety, but nothing too serious.
I’ve been getting a bit of back ache, especially when I’m sat on my laptop for too long. This is really annoying because I obviously need to use my computer to work, so I’m just making sure I take regular breaks and change positions.
Big brother update.
Lamb is much more aware that there will be a baby in the house. I recently bought him a dolly so he can practice being a big brother and help mummy take care of the baby. He absolutely loves it and is so gentle when he’s holding it. No matter how crazy he is being, if I ask him to give his baby a bottle, he instantly calms down and is really quiet and loving. This is so lovely to see as I’m hoping he will be like this when there’s a real baby in the house! If you haven’t read my post about buying Lamb a dolly you can read it here.
Lamb has decided on his brothers name and won’t let me suggest anything else. As much as I love the idea of him naming his brother, the name just isn’t what I want so he will just have to deal with him being called something else! I’, sure he’ll forgive me eventually 😉
If I tell him his brother is kicking he quickly puts his hand on my tummy to feel it and gets super excited when he feels him kick. I think it was after the first time he felt a kick that he realised there was a real baby in my belly.
Finally, we are helping him prepare for his brothers arrival by getting him a new bed for his 3rd birthday next month. We are going for a mid sleeper cabin bed so he feels like the ‘big brother’ and his Cosatto Story Cot Bed will be kept for baby number 2. (You can read our review of it here). With his sleeping being so bad at the moment we are really hoping his new ‘big boy’ bed will convince him to sleep in his own room. We’ve also got a Gro-Clock
to stop him waking too early. I’m not holding my breath though.
I think that’s it for this update. I’ve got a couple of consultations coming up so I’ll write another update after I’ve had those. I’ve also got my 28 week midwife appointment to book (this will be the first time I’ve seen her since my booking in appointment at 8 weeks!) so hopefully I’ll know more about how he’s measuring etc. Then I’ll have interesting info to update you with!
