Have you approached that difficult time of deciding what you want for a wedding gift from your guests? There are so many options, which can become really confusing. Do you pick a gift list with one company? Do you set up a holiday fund? Do you ask for money?
A gift list is a popular choice, however in my opinion, you become restricted to what you can ask for. If you have a very traditional marriage, then a gift list may work for you, as you may be about to move into your first home together as a married couple.
If, like me, you already own your house with your partner, you may not need a lot of things, therefore a gift list probably won’t be the best option. Personally, we didn’t feel comfortable asking for anything from our guests. Joe and I have been together for over 8 years now and have everything we need (sort of!) OK, so yes it would be nice to have fancy plates, sharper knives or more picture frames on the walls, but our house is small, full with toys and pretty much always a mess with the stuff we already own. Adding more possessions is not ideal for us right now.
This doesn’t mean we don’t want any gifts at all. Everyone loves opening presses! We just didn’t want to ask for anything in particular. Which gives our guests to choose how they want to gift us, if they want to gift us at all.
If we are lucky enough to receive any money in our wedding cards, this gives us the chance to really think about what we want to spend it on. We could buy lots of lovely bits for the house, or put the money together for something larger.
I was recently given the opportunity to pick a wedding gift to review from Treat Republic. Launched last year Treat Republic is an online store specialising in personalised, bespoke and handmade gifts. From babies to grandparents, weddings to gardens, there is something suitable for everyone.
So off I went to the wedding section. I had to think really hard about what I wanted to review. Whether it be something the the bride, the groom or both, I wanted to pick something I genuinely liked or needed. Like I said before, we have been together over 8 years and bought our house 3 years ago, have an 18 month old son, and not a lot of space, so not everything is ideal for us.
I absolutely love their personalised cheese boards. This isn’t the gift I picked in the end, however it came a close second to the gift I did choose. This is one of my favourites.
As soon as I saw the gift I chose, I knew that’s what I wanted. It’s by one of my favourite brands ‘The Bright Side’. If you haven’t heard of The Bright Side, you might have seen their products. Quirky, contemporary, tongue in cheek words and phrases offered on anything from birthday cards to note books.
My bathroom is in desperate need of redecoration. In fact, I want to rip it out completely, but that’s not really a priority at the moment. Adding little details like stylish hand cream and soap dispensers makes what we do have look that little bit better. For a couple like Joe and myself, something like these are the perfect gift. Not too big and bulky, but a traditional ‘homely’ wedding gift with a contemporary twist. They may not be to everyone’s taste, but are a fun, modern option of something that might usually be plain and simple.
The Treat Republic website is really lovely. It’s so easy to navigate and you can find exactly what you need using the menus and filters. Personally, I get really annoyed if a website is too complicated and I can’t find what i’m looking for. Quality product needs a quality website to match, and I think Treat Republic definitely offer this.
As well as reviewing a product I’m also lucky enough to offer a giveaway. How exciting!
