I’ve never been one for New Year resolutions. Maybe the odd “this year I’ll give up crisps”, but who am I kidding? Nobody gives up crisps.
2015 is different. I don’t have any resolutions, but I am setting myself goals. Well, maybe I should have one resolution. To keep my house tidy. I’m pretty guilty of saying to myself “i’ll tidy up tomorrow”.
So, there you have it, my New Year resolution.
I MUST KEEP MY HOUSE TIDY… I MUST KEEP MY HOUSE TIDY…
Last year, my goals for this year was to possibly move house and upsize, and to try for our second baby. That was until my hubby was made redundant. He was lucky enough to find a new job pretty quickly, however it’s an apprenticeship so he will be earning minimum wage. This is a huge drop from how much he was earning in his previous job. Ouch.
I work part time and my money covers Lambs nursery fees and groceries. We discussed the possibility of me going back to work full time. But I didn’t become a mother to spend 5 days a week away from my child. No way. Not going to happen. 3 days is enough.
We have worked out hubby could possibly make £1000 a month while he’s training (for an apprenticeship this is really good, so we’re not complaining!) This will cover our mortgage and most of the bills. Add that to my part time salary and we can cover all of our outgoings, but will be left with hardly any disposable income.
Which leads me on to my first goal for this year. Budgeting.
We have never had loads of money, but my hubby earned a decent salary in his job as a printer. He covered all of the bills and had a little money left to save. He could treat us to a holiday once a year, and made sure the car was happy and healthy. I bought all of the food and made sure Lamb was dressed nicely. It worked.
Life is moving into the unknown.
We now have to live on a very tight budget. We have to know exactly where every pound is going. This is something I’m scared of. I’m extremely guilty of handing over my debit card and not worrying about what I have in the bank. Which results in a very poor last week of the month.
It’s time to plan ahead and make some changes to our finances.
- Pay with cash wherever possible to avoid late debits to our account.
- Go back to my online grocery shopping challenge which I did last year. £50 a week.
- Own brand products where possible.
- Research to find the best deals (something I do religiously anyway)
- Use cash back sites.
- Save coupons and try to use them as much as possible.
- Take a lunchbox to work! We both spend so much money on food and drinks at work. This must stop.
- Less takeaways!
- Look at our providers and try to change for a better deal.
My second goal for this year. Blogging.
I was really luckily to be offered a number of sponsored posts towards the end of last year. I never expected to be paid to blog, not yet anyway. This has given me a taste of what I could turn the blog into, and that’s a career.
Blogging is my therapy. My hobby. My release.
If I can turn it into a career I would be one happy mummy.
I have set myself a goal of publishing a blog post a day. If I don’t have anything to write about, or I haven’t managed to schedule a post, I will post a photo. Words or no words. Sometimes all you need is a photo.
This leads us onto my third goal. Planning.
I need a diary. There’s no doubt about it. I need to plan my week around work and Lamb. If I want the blog to be successful I need to plan ahead so I know what I’m writing about. For the past year I’ve blogged on demand, but there’s no way I will keep up with my one blog post a day challenge, if I haven’t planned and scheduled the posts.
I need to plan my time to fit in grocery shopping (even if it’s online), activities with Lamb, seeing family and friends.
I’m a perfectionist and when my head is organised my stress levels decrease. Simple.
My fourth and final goal. Redecorating.
It’s looks like we won’t be able to move house and try for a baby for another 2 years. We are being sensible. Hubby needs to be fully trained and earning good money again before we throw ourselves into another financial commitment (yes, I class another baby as a financial commitment!)
I have decided, to keep me happy in our cute little 2 bed semi, I want to redecorate every room. I need a change to keep me interested.
We are starting with our bedroom. Using the generous amount of money we received when we got married we have just purchased a new bed and mattress.
Stay tuned for posts on how the decorating goes…
